I remember when Haley realised they didn't re-record the bg vocals when Christina Grimmie recorded Haley's "Get Yourself Together". Haley didn't realise they used her bg vocals as well as bought her song. They just went ahead and used Haley's bg vocals... I always wondered if that meant Christina's people had to pay more to use Haley's vocals ?

Midnight, I know I don't love them blues. I won't go into just how much I dislike them, but, no, Midnight, I truly do not like/love "them blues." I understand the underlying reason/need, but I don't want to listen to it -- and, it has nothing to do with the "sad chord."

I know...that was ridiculous. And it would have only taken about what, two minutes to record?
RE: Haley's New Songs - mercfan3 - 05-01-2015
Unfortunately, I think that's actually pretty common. I remember when they flat out didn't tell Dilana (contestan from the Rock Star show) that they had given Alison Iraheta "Holiday." And I believe Dilana's background vocals are on it..and that's from a major label, not an indie EP. And of course, there's the B.C. Jean/Beyonce situation. Which was awful.
Christina's got a huge range, but getting her to stay on pitch and have that same thickness that Haley had probably would take more than three minutes. Cut the production time, and give Haley the extra penny per download they'd owe her (I'm sure they're saving money by doing it.) I just hope they actually did pay her for it. It's likely that it's not much that they would owe her..but they would owe her.
I also remember Haley saying she wrote a song for a "poppier" artist, and it was somewhat EDM based. ("Hypnotic") being as that's a direction it seems like Grimmie likes to go in, I wonder if that was for her as well. (Or maybe, even better, for Selena Gomez. Selena's father is Grimmie's manager..)

Christina is a great singer, but for some reason she can't sing this song live. I've always wondered how Haley would do live with the song. Is it really that hard of a song to sing?

That's actually not true.In the basic 12 bar blues form there are actually no minor(or sad) chords-or none of the main ones at least. But performers will often use some notes from a minor scale that give it that "sad " feel even if the chords themselves are not minor.
But that's getting all technical. One thing for sure-when Haley is on and singing the blues-or songs that have a strong blues feel it does not make me sad.
RE: Haley's New Songs - mercfan3 - 05-01-2015
Haley's songs are ridiculously difficult to sing. She makes it look easy (although, if you notice when she performs "Oh My" she changes some of the notes sometimes..it's just really really hard.). They aren't "Show off your voice" hard...similar to Pink I think. (rare for someone to actually be able to cover Pink songs adequately because they are lowkey extremely difficult.)
Christina can stray off pitch when she belts, and some of her other vocal weaknesses would be exposed with a Haley song (like most vocalists).
I do think it's adorable that it's her favorite of all of the songs on that EP.
RE: Haley's New Songs - dswim2 - 05-01-2015
I suppose you are right...its just shocking that Christina is someone that a lot of people would consider a good singer, but her live version goes off pitch so much. I guess it is a testament to Haley as a singer.
RE: Haley's New Songs - Tusk - 05-01-2015
Haley has incredible breath control... If you watch my "Creep" O2 vid, when she starts really digging into the song, you can see that she has incredible control even though she's 'belting' and growling, really leaning into the vocal... and she's doing it without breaking a sweat... I love to watch that part just to see how ridiculously easy it seems for her, yet to deliver such power and emotion, she's just ......
