RE: "Listen Up!" song previews now on iTunes! - Flask Man - 05-10-2012 Listen Up! has a lot of disco influence, and Oh My! is straight from the Donna Summer playbook. Check out "Love to Love you Baby" and you'll see what I mean: http://youtu.be/1R9hwGOObqs RE: "Listen Up!" song previews now on iTunes! - midnightblues - 05-10-2012 Is as I said in one of my previous posts I think UNDONE is a song a lot of people can relate to. And I hope Haley did not have to experience that gut wrenching ripping of the soul for her to write that. I wish her peace. It has to do with breaking up and having do experience the emotional upset and turmoil that it creates. It's a ballad and I don't think I have ever heard Haley sing one. Can't wait to listen to the rest of it but even in the 9o second snippet a story was told. Way to go Hales. RE: "Listen Up!" song previews now on iTunes! - john - 05-10-2012 I took a different look at the data from Tusk's IDF survey. I tallied the number of times a song was ranked in the top 3 or the bottom 3 by the respondents (n=39). I used top and bottom 3 as a way to find the songs which elicited the strongest opinions. Most likely to be in the top 3 26 (67%) Oh My 21 (54%) Undone 12 (31%) HTGR 09 (23%) NTYH These are the songs people liked the best with the same three songs coming out on top as in Tusk's ranking. Wasted Tears (#4 in the Tusk ranking) comes in 8th with 6 votes tallied. People that favored Undone tended to like it a lot. It was ranked #1 by 13 people, whereas Oh My was ranked #1 by 8 people despite the fact it was more likely to be in the top 3. Oh My was most commonly ranked #2 by respondents (12 times). Least likely to be in top 3 01 (2.6%) Free 02 (5.2%) Spiderweb 03 (7.7%) Walking on Heaven These are the songs that were least likely to be favorites of the respondents. Most likely to be in bottom 3 20 (51%) Spiderweb 18 (46%) Free 15 (38%) What You Don't Know 11 (28%) Wonderland These are the songs that respondents liked the least. Least likely to be in the top or bottom 3 08 (21%) Wasted Tears 13 (33%) Walking on Heaven 13 (33%) Now that You're Here These are the songs that were unlikely to stir a strong opinion one way or the other. If this is confusing try this. RE: "Listen Up!" song previews now on iTunes! - Tom22 - 05-11-2012 on this steamy stuff .. somehow being an "old guy' now with a daughter in her young teens it all gets kinda confusing... suddenly I can't even enjoy watching the college cheerleaders shaking their hips and showing off their legs anymore without feelikng like a pervert (maybe they need to get some of the 45 year old alumni heerleaders ? ![]() But that sort of steamy stuff in "O My" is a big part of vocal music that relates to real life. (I try to listen to stuff about love and sex allegorilcally and relate it to any aspiration or hard to reach goal or any sort of excited interest in anything but.. thats another subject.) Most people I know had a lot of fun and dated numerous people between 17 and 22.. 3 months was a long time back then let alone a year so, while it didn't seem we were jumping around from person to person at the time necessarily, a lot of experiences and falling in and out of "love" (infatiuation attraction) happened . Lest we thing that today is so much dirtier than the past (it certainly is but not like it was a 100% clean past either) here are the lyrics to the 75 year old 1940s number Kelly Clarkson sung the first season But a man came along Made my life like a song And tought me these words of ecstasy Tenderly I want some huggin' And some squeezin' And some muggin' And some teasin' And some stuff like that there I want some pettin' And some spoonin' And some happy honeymoonin' And some stuff like that there I used to think that love was just a lotta rubbish A mess o' cabbage A mess o' cabbage But now my attitude is only lovey dovish And baby, you, you've done it Ooh I used to think romance was bunk A double-mickey for the ickey But all at once my heart was sunk And baby, you, you've done it I want some huggin' and some teasin' And some muggin' and some squeezin' And some stuff like that there I want some weepin' and some chasin' And some sweepin' and some pacin' And some stuff like that there And when I get a certain feelin' I confess it I really only know one expression to express it I want some huggin', squeezin', muggin', teasin' And some stuff I want some stuff like that there Looking at the lyrics to that 1940's song, the Oh my ! doesn't sound too much different... maybe the terms they're using today will seem equally quaint in the future but even if not, I don't hink there was any doubt about what all that stuff like that there was. Darn though.. its confusing thinking of someone you might have in your head with similar protective thoughts you'd have for a niece or something singing of alll that stuff like that there without a bit of ebarassment hearing about it from her. So, NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE, you're FREE to HIT THE GROUND RUNNING but DON'T FOLLOW ME or you'll KEEP COMING BACK or you'll get too close to the SPIDERWEB and that would bring WASTED TEARS, so you better say LETS RUN AWAY, if you are getting too anxious to check LISTEN UP out before you get your copy in the mail.. Just having fun and poking at bb a little LOL.. ![]() RE: "Listen Up!" song previews now on iTunes! - Tusk - 05-11-2012 @John...Fun With Numbers ![]() "Undone" actually had the lead for a while, 'Oh My' just passed it on my last tabulation (the next one looks like OM will stretch it's lead). OM hardly made anyone's lower half, nor "Undone" for that matter.... "Spiderweb", on the other hand, rarely made many top halves. BTW I'll see your Marshall Mathers and raise you a Donny Osmond RE: "Listen Up!" song previews now on iTunes! - john - 05-11-2012 (05-11-2012, 01:06 AM)Tusk Wrote: @John...Fun With Numbers Yeah, sometimes I can't resist crunching some numbers. ![]() Quote:BTW I'll see your Marshall Mathers and raise you a Donny Osmond RE: "Listen Up!" song previews now on iTunes! - Tusk - 05-11-2012 (05-11-2012, 02:40 AM)john Wrote:(05-11-2012, 01:06 AM)Tusk Wrote: @John...Fun With Numbers I was wrong, "Oh My" did not pull ahead, in fact, "Undone" has taken back the lead... They were among my least favorite of the previews. Oh well, different strokes for different folks... and so on, and so on, and scooby-dooby-dooby.
