Haley changed it up a little bit and it sounded great (although they cut off the end). The interviewer was well prepared and seems to be a fan. He suggested she would cook with this song:

Awesome. Thanks for sharing! The interview was excellent, very well prepared host who sounds like a newfound Halien! Nothing better than Haley getting jazzy on a stool with a piano. One of my very favorite performances.

I love this song! I'm familiar with Sarah Vaughan, but never heard this one until now. Host was right, Haley would definitely COOK with that one!

Really beautiful version. I don't know if this is me or if this was her, but there was this unusual note of sadness in her expression and voice today. Did anyone else hear/see this? I teared up a bit. It made me think of how hard it must be to be 21 and touring all over the country, and being expected to be on her "A" game all the time. I can't imagine any of us would have any idea about what that must be like.

Haley Reinhart has a lot more to fight ahead of her; It's a good thing she loves performing as much as she does. No doubt she will just keep kicking ass and the rewards will be worth it. She will keep Reinharting her way through the process of all her dreams coming true.

Judging by the tweets others made, they had a really long day yesterday. So Haley might be tired. And like many of us, perhaps more prone to melancholy in such a state.
Looks like she also made a radio show appearance in Detroit:

It could just be fatigue...Miguel posted a tweet from Courtney saying something about being exhausted from traveling and 2 performances and 3 cities. On the other hand, the pics we got before the show at the Intersection, didn't have the usual "Haley Sparkle" to them. We've been so spoiled with Haley's high energy personality, that when she not feeling '1000%', we might notice it.

Detroit has been called the most depressing city in the nation.
Quote:Detroit has room for two million people, but there are only about 900,000 left. Nature and entropy are having their way with vast stretches of Detroit, a city that has been punished by the implosion of the auto industry but that began failing in fundamental ways many years before that. Thousands of homes have fallen down and been hauled away, leaving behind a patchwork of empty lots.
The biggest vibe in many of these neighborhoods is not one of fear, but for a visitor, loneliness. Even in the downtown area, it’s as if a directive has gone out to flee, and the ones who remain missed the memo.

Mr. Bill, I agree with the "fatigue theory" and would have suggested it if others hadn't beat me to it.
John, I agree, I think Haley could sing "Mama, he treats your daughter mean" really well. But if she does sing it, I certainly hope she goes back to the original way it was done or a version that is closer, as opposed to this overly arranged, completely hokey version. Sarah, how could you do that to yourself?!? (Yes, I know that was the style when this was likely recorded, but still...Yikes!)

This might be one of my favorite performances of Free. She slowed it down and gave it a jazzy twist, but most of all showed the emotion of the song. Hope she got some rest today, so she's all rested for her performance tomorrow!
