Commenting on LU! at Billboard.com - Flask Man - 06-21-2012
I commented on ListenUp‬! over at Billboard.com. Have you? If not, please do so ASAP while she's still in the Top 200. Here's what I had to say:

I'm not sure it's fair to compare this album, or Haley, to anyone else in popular music today. The best way to describe her is unique. Uniquely gifted, that is. Her voice...nobody else sounds like her. Smokey and raspy, yet not gravely. Sexy, sultry, but not slutty. Huge range, lots of power, but incredible finesse. On this album she shows off her amazing versatility, offering up influences of Motown, disco, rock, reggae, pop and hints of jazz. It's a remarkable composition, and an absolute MUST BUY for any serious music enthusiast.
Sidebar: In my opinion, jazz is where her musical gifts are actually best utilized. She's a former student of jazz, and her performances both during and after Idol in this format have been stunning. Check out her duets with Tony Bennett, Casey Abrams and her masterpiece call/response performance of God Bless The Child with Irvin Mayfield Jr. She's a prodigy at vocal styling, and has the range, instincts and chops to go with it making her an absolute jazz natural. I think she would become a Grammy award winning sensation in that genre if she dedicated herself in that direction.

^^ Very accurate assessment and very well written IMHO. Although I really would like to see her affect the pop culture in a "Change the World" kind of way. But I suppose with things in the world as they are she would have a shorter path to reach sensationalism by traveling the jazz road. On the other hand, I respect her dream of bringing more light into this dark old world and her choices of how to do so. The proof is already in the pudding.
Haley Reinhart is a Beacon for Goodness to the Now Generation!
