Pianos & Keyboards - LovinDaHaley - 07-14-2012
I'm Latino, I love Jazz, and I'm starting the thread, so why not kick it off with some Latin Jazz
Michel Camilo: An amazing pianist and composer from Dominican Republic. Camilo lists some of his main influences as Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, and Art Tatum.
Chucho and Bebo Valdés: Chucho has long been revered as Cuba's greatest jazz pianist. His father, Bebo, is the famed Cuban pianist and former director of Havana's famous "Tropicana" night club.
Or maybe I should have started this thread with some Keith Jarrett

Lovinda, excellent picks -- each terrific in it's own style. Besides being phenomenally gifted, Jarrett's a hoot to watch and Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette definitely hold their own with him!

^ I love you MAE! Thank you so much for taking a minute to post that. I was feeling lonely in this thread. But more than that, some things are just too darn awesome to enjoy and appreciate alone. I love knowing we see eye to eye on this one too

^ Indeed Buzz- "Swedes can bring it"!
Jan Johansson Quartet (R.I.P Jan )
Beautiful little concert - Well worth the 26:05, and then some, IMHO
RE: Pianos & Keyboards - My Alter Ego - 08-18-2012
^^^ Oh, yes, Swedes can bring it! Another fabulous find, LDH. (Although I have to admit I hate just learning about another terrific musician, only to also learn that he's no longer among the living.)
Thanks for posting this. This quartet is another fine example of the minimalist philosophy ("less is more"). They're all good, but the bass player is wonderful!

Oh how I do love MAE! - You may never know how big of a kick I get our tifapu shared enjoyments of these musical treasures (tifapu = Twins Indeed From A Parallel Universe).
I confess, I am a "less is more" kind of girl when it comes to Jazz and Classical. However, I do like some of the "more is more" stuff too; for example, Rachmaninoff and Keith Jarrett.
For sure, the premature car-crash-death of Jan Johansson really was a shame.
But there is good news MAE- The bass player who caught your ear (George Riedel) is still alive and kicking ass, paying homage to Jan.
