RE: Phillip Phillips - My Alter Ego - 08-03-2012
Thanks for providing this thread, LovinDa. I'm not quite sure why P squared's song was chosen for background music (except for the title, of course) for the USA Olympic Team Trial, but I would say that little Ms. Douglas certainly proved her "mental toughness" yesterday. Go Gabby!
From the EW.com article:
Glad to hear you’re excited. You ruffled some feathers after winning American Idol when you said that the song was “not really something [you] would write.” Some people felt that you didn’t like it. How do you feel about “Home?”
I never said anything bad about the song; I just said it’s not really my style. I’m more into jazz stuff.
Jazz stuff?? That's what PhilPhil thinks he's doing? (Unfortunately, I can't find a smilie that depicts one eyebrow raised so high it's almost off the face.)
I'd love to hear some of the haleyfans.com members weigh in on that.

I haven't heard him play what I'd call jazz yet but I think he's a pretty good musician.
He's got a deep connection with the music and a style that works for him.
I just don't realy get moved much by listening to it because its maybe more real and less idealistic or escapist or other adjectives i could pull out if brainstorming... lifting? idk
Still , he's no flat pop star by any means

I don't hate P2, but I think if his IQ were two points lower he'd need to be watered every day and given plenty of sunlight. So on one hand I don’t take anything he thinks or says seriously, and on the other hand his Top 4 performance of Volcano from AI is one of my all-time favorite numbers from any singing competition show.
Phillip Phillips – Volcano

I really like his Billy Joel song... I appreciate what he did with volcano but its just not my kind of song..... not optomistic enough for me ...bit too cool about the world instead of gobbling it up and acting like you own the ground you talk on (ok.. im getting carried away)
I liked his midnight hour too.. i'd listen to it over the orginal sometimes.

P2™ formula = 1 part Richie Havens, 2 parts Joe Cocker, cup of gravel, a little Potassium (not too much - kidney stones) and a dash of Bob Dylan. Old school formula

None of which adds up to "jazz stuff." Excellent breakdown, Sir Buzz!

-- The sentence in bold sums it up, doesn't it? I don't find what he calls "his music" to be remotely musical. To me, the only songs he performed that I thought he didn't destroy were those that I hadn't heard to begin with, so had nothing to compare with. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to forgive him for butchering "Supersticious" and "Thriller" in his initial audition.

Thanks Buzz, I thought maybe there was some zolpidem in the mix.

You don't want to "overthink" this P2™ stuff.

Good point, John! While I tend to lose sleep over a good many things, I can honestly P2 has never been one of them!

So "Home" was used as the Women’s Gymanastic’s Olympic theme song on television.
Now it's being feature in a Clint Eastwood movie (and the trailer):
