Randy Jackson Out - john - 08-31-2012 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote:Michael Slezak @MichaelSlezakTV Quote:AUGUST 31, 2012 10:38 AM PDT Randy Jackson Reportedly Out as American Idol Judge: Let Us Bid Good Riddance With a Song BY MICHAEL SLEZAK Get More: American Idol, Reality TV Rumors of Randy Jackson’s ouster from the American Idol judges’ panel have been percolating since the dawn of time for weeks. And now TMZ is reporting that the man commonly referred to as “the other judge,” “that dude who dresses like he’s enrolled in a prep school for clowns,” and “the devil’s mouthpiece” will definitely take on a role mentoring contestants, clearing a spot in the Simon Cowell Memorial Chair for (maybe) Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, or both. (Hey, if that seat was big enough for Cowell’s ego, it can handle Minaj and Nicole Kidman’s husband simultaneously.) I can’t lie and say I’m in any way upset by the possibility of a diminished role for Randy. Okay, okay…I’ll miss the easy punchlines and kneejerk rage he inspired in my recaps with his relentless name-dropping and penchant for ignoring the performances in front of him (relying instead on a pre-determined script served up by executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and his minions). But other than that, “good riddance,” I say. Sure, change is scary. And yeah, I know a lot of folks subscribe to “better the devil you know.” But after 11 seasons of “for me, for you,” “kinda pitchy,” “yo yo yo, ummm…uhhhh…so listen, dawg, check it out…” nonsense, there’s no way Idol can do any worse. Right? Right? With that in mind, I’ve reworked the lyrics to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” — new title, “Underachieving” — to bid farewell to Randy and to pay tribute to his remarkably consistent ability to disappoint. (Click here if you need a little musical accompaniment while you’re reading.) Here we go… ![]() RE: Randy Jackson Out - Miguel - 08-31-2012 Randy deserved to be demoted. His ham-fisted bussing of Haley Reinhart hurt the show's credibility and contributed to the ratings decline the following year. RE: Randy Jackson Out - john - 08-31-2012 Slezack's reworking of "Don't Stop Believing" titled "Underachieving" is pretty funny. Quote:...Phoned it in but still got paid RE: Randy Jackson Out - Babbs234 - 08-31-2012 I understand most people disliked Randy and wanted him out as a judge for AI, but I cant help but think he was the last remnant of the "Original" American Idol. It's like when you get a new job and the experienced manager trains you and shows you the ropes. Now I can't help but feel " anything goes". All new judges, noone left as the main stay judge. Im sure people will watch AI just to see how the new judges handle the competition, but for me, Ive lost interest. Too many shows with revolving door judging. Sorry. ![]() ![]() Hope I dont get slammed for saying this but its just my opinion. ![]() RE: Randy Jackson Out - john - 08-31-2012 (08-31-2012, 12:51 PM)Babbs234 Wrote: I understand most people disliked Randy and wanted him out as a judge for AI, but I cant help but think he was the last remnant of the "Original" American Idol. Im sure people will watch AI just to see how the new judges handle the competition, but for me, Ive lost interest. It will be a different show. Having Randy as a mentor seems like an attempt to bring in some continuity to the past. Simon leaving was the beginning of the end as Randy couldn't hold that chair effectively. Good grief, he needed rules of the sort a child might be given prohibiting some of his clichéd feedback. Ultimately he seemed bored and disinterested. Que Sera Sera. RE: Randy Jackson Out - Babbs234 - 08-31-2012 Well I hope whoever the judges are on AI, that they will stay for more than one year. The show loses credibility with different judges every year. Its become "all about the money"."Who will pay me the most". Meanwhile the contestants make , what, $1500?? a week for being on the show. I understand its the chance of a lifetime for the contestants but $17 million for a judge?? What's the world coming to... ![]() RE: Randy Jackson Out - Tom22 - 08-31-2012 I think they need to entirely change the role of the judges. Make it easier for them by giving it some structure. They can fall back on that if they don't have anything clever to say. If they had to give the idols's 3 marks 1 to 5 1) for appearance and stage presence 2) vocal excecution 3) over-all impression including song choice and connection to the song. The could give someone a 4- 5 -3 , or a 3-4 -5 revealing 1 number at a time when asked by Ryan And it would be easier for them to add a specific criticism without dissing the over all impression. That structure could also help them get out of the role of trying not to say too many good things for fear of hurting the chances of other competitors. It would be so much better to get rid of this notion that the judges are there to tell us who to vote for or rank the performers in order. Just comment sensibly , the audience does choosing. RE: Randy Jackson Out - Haleylvr4evr - 08-31-2012 I've never liked Randy anyway, I'm glad hes done! Ding Dong the wicked Witch is dead!! ![]() RE: Randy Jackson Out - Himm2 - 08-31-2012 Ever since he started trashing Haley Reinhart he's been: "IN IT, TO LOSE IT!" |
