Best of 2012: Top 30 Songs of the Year (20-11)
It’s that wonderful time of year where we can look back and reflect on the year that was. I’m still working on both of my television lists, and there’s a little bit of a reprieve with the critics awards over the next couple of days, so I thought it would be fun to share my Top 30 songs of this past year. As you can probably tell by the list, the song choices are pretty much pop songs that were hits. But that’s the type of music I like and am drawn to, so why not be true to myself? Here are the next set of 10 songs. The previous set is located on the blog. I was going to do some commentary, but I ran out of things to say after attempting to write about a few songs. I will still include my favorite lyrics from the song though.
20. Haley Reinhart – “Free”
“We don’t let go, we can’t get close
I still need you, and you still need me
This tug of war can’t go on anymore
Nobody wins from this misery, free
Well oh can’t you see, I wanna be, I want you to be, free”

A Very Reality Rocks Xmas: Holiday Music From 'Idol,' 'The Voice' & More
By Lyndsey Parker

...
Haley Reinhart & Casey Abrams, "Baby, It's Cold Outside" - This duet between the jazzbo darlings of "Idol" Season 10 came out last year, and I now consider it a holiday classic. Haley and Casey's smooth voices go down as easy as hot-buttered rum, and just seeing them together in their accompanying video, goofing off as they drape each other in twinkling Christmas lights, still fills me with comfort and joy. Buy it on iTunes

^^That's very nice of Lyndsey to bring this up a year after it came out. Hopefully, this recording/video will become a "new" holiday tradition. I love the word "jazzbo!"

When this came out last year it did seem like an instant classic. The whole thing-the arrangement,Haley's voice, the chemistry that the two of them have-it all came together perfectly."Jazzbo"-like the video itself is right out of the fifties.
Glad to see that Haley finally got a mention in Rolling Stone.

^^Re: jazzbo. I did a little searching on the internet today. Apparently the word's been around since the early part of the 20th century. Perhaps, it gained popular use in the 50's.

She does have a nice voice and brings a nice and personal interpretation to the song. ... a more innocent young girls version ... it works for her and I'm sure is very approachable to a certain segment of kids.
I really is a special song. I'd love to hear a really detailed story of the day it got written.. what different parties brought in they had worked on before the collaboration.. what they expermented with etc.
but.... lol .. I like a lot more detail and "how" and "why's" that don't have anything to do with the end result than most people.
