Residual negativity from fans of other idols - Miguel - 01-07-2013

FYI: Tusk is referring to some people on MJ's. Some fans of Haley made positive posts in response to her RML performance, volunteering that she was their favorite Idol ever or that she was the best performer of her season (that post seems to have been deleted). Those posts spurred some posters to remark negatively on the performance and one in particular to dig in deeper when confronted with evidence contrary to his remarks (you can't call them out directly about their underlying motivation because such an "attack" is likely to lead to your banning). The insidious nature of such posts ["I'm being completely objective when I make this negative statement"] poisons the well.

It seems that some people thought her performance was too "stiff" or too laid back. Then again one of those also posted that when she was on Idol that after the first couple of weeks she sang the same song everytime-which is actually pretty funny-all you can really do is laugh at comments like that.

Her performance might not have been as animated as Lollapolooza but that's all I would say about it.It was fine.I always keep in mind that since last May when her album came out that she's had-maybe- a half dozen gigs with a full band.Under those circumstances there's been little opportunity at all to really grow as a performer. There may have been all the duo or trio gigs but to my mind, its just not the same.Maybe for a gig like Las Vegas it was OK but for the kind of music she's doing on her album, there's no substitute for a full band and I'm sure she'd be the first to tell you that.

When I went to see her in Portland, opening for Allen Stone, and with just John Notto backing her up on guitar-my sister who I went with and whose opinion I respect- said more than once that Haley sounded great but just imagine if she were up there in front of Allen's band. She's going to see Allen and Haley in Boston on the 20th and she actually sent Allen a tweet suggesting that Allen have Haley sit in with his band.It might not happen but I told her-way to go.

At any rate all you have to do is look at her tour videos and see what kind of performer she was by the end of it.All she needs is get busy.

Well, laughing really is the best response, since between "too stiff" to "too laid back" one has run about a 180 degree difference. And, "Moanin'" sounds just like -- oh, let's say "Blue."

Obviously, "said posters" have both extremely selective hearing and memories. (And the "sound alike" songs were probably her performance night performances, as opposed to result night duets with someone else.) But, for anyone to remark that "all of her songs sound just alike" is someone who has a far more pronounced hearing loss than I do (the primary reason I chose not to pursue a career in music). Utterly ludicrous!

I agree. I have complete confidence in Haley. She turns in fine performances now and they'll only get better when given an opportunity to consistently perform with her band in front of crowds that are there to see her.

The same guy started by saying imagine what Amy Winehouse would do with this. The videos of Amy's 2004 performances show her basically standing at a microphone and singing. He also pointed to "House of Rising Sun" as a lackluster performance that few would find engaging, saying Haley had "dead wooden eyes." When confronted with press accolades for that performance he dismissed them as hype to get votes (that post was later deleted by MJ).

MJ does not like Haley - never has never will. It is her blog she can what she wants. I never go there because of her negativity about Haley and her attitude that is unobjective and her attitude that I am the all knowing OZ of the Idol blogs - whatever. Like Haley or not, okay fine but just don't minuplate. "Small voice" some people I just don't care for "small voice". I am a fan of Haley and don't care what "it thinks" that is all that matters to me. Big Grin

I don't like it when she mocks people for having a "special snowflake." If they didn't, she would have little traffic. I can understand her desire to discourage "fan wars" but she should be more appreciative of her visitors given she (apparently) makes a living off them.

"There are none so blind, as those who will not see." The above mentioned poster sounds like someone seeking attention, regardless of whether the attention is positive or his remarks are truthful. Good for MJ for deleting it.

I don't want to go into Amy Winehouse comparisons because it's simply not fair to either Amy (an obviously tortured soul) or Haley (a happy, young woman with solid, emotional family support, which is not to say that Amy's family did not try to provide that -- I don't know enough about her to know one way or the other.) The only thing that I really remember about A.W. is that video of a concert she was "supposed" to perform in (in Germany??), wherein she was incoherent and booed. A very short time later, she was dead. Perhaps the poster is one of those individuals who thinks that in order to be an "artist," one must have "suffered."

Or, perhaps, as I said earlier, the poster is simply seeking attention.

rnn - Tusk - 01-07-2013

I used to think she doesn't like Haley, but now I'm not so sure that she 'doesn't like' her....I think Haley is just a 'low priority' among all the other Idols for her.

I have seen her write things that are complimentary towards Haley (like when she posted a thread using my Vegas videos), using positive descriptors. So I can't agree that she 'doesn't like' Haley. Even the Real Music Live thread, her post is complimentary and relatively, for her, supportive.

Quote:Watch Haley Reinhart perform a sexy, sultry rendition of “Oh My” on Real Music Live. The new show airs on NBC after Saturday Night Live.

The tune is from the season 10 American Idol alum’s debut album, Listen Up!

In the TV market (Boston) where I live, the NBC affiliate is airing infomercials in the time slot instead. But luckily, for those of you in the same boat, the producers of the show are uploading the entire episode to You Tube.

OTOH, I'm confused by her moderation rules. She sometimes appears to let some go on and on in derisive manner, then clamp down when a Haley fan protests. Maybe she wouldn't have to ban people for responding, if she didn't let some 'regulars' post things that if posted about other more popular Idols, would not be tolerated at all.

It is her blog and I do go there to keep up with things as well as give my two cents, so I try to be respectful of her rules as I understand them.

I try to give moderators the benefit of the doubt as their job can't be easy and they have to deal with all sorts with their own agendas. With the amount of volume they have to moderate, it can't be easy to take in every little fact of every squabble into acct. I just wished she didn't allow for the 'haters' to post what they do then see her Ban those who respond to the haters. There wouldn't be a response if there wasn't someone who was baiting with derision to begin with. Tongue

BTW I had to LOL at the poster who 'was a fan of Haley', but then decided to use HOTRS as an example of Haley's inability to perform.... Using one of S10's watershed performances to illustrate Haley's failings invalidated any and all his 'suggestions for improvement' ....Dodgy

That, and his history of previously speaking poorly of her.

RE: Residual negativity from fans of other idols - Himm2 - 01-07-2013

Ignorance, Immaturity & Jealousy...thats all it is - and I truly admire Haley for not getting into any battles or taking their stupidity personally.
