Haley's EP - Swansteel - 02-21-2013
I really am excited about Haley's upcoming EP. Just the idea of hearing new music, especially music that is part of Haley's continuing growth as an artist, makes me feel giddy.
I can still vividly remember listening to Haley's Idol covers back in the day and thinking to myself: "Imagine, some day Haley will have music of her own. I will be able to listen to her sing original material and it will be even more wonderful because the music will be her own." That day came with the release of Listen Up! and now will continue with her EP. I can hardly wait to hear the harder edged stuff, especially if it includes hints of blues and jazz. The mind boggles. And then there is the mystery cover that may or may not be Can't Find My Way Home. I'm getting goose-bumps just writing it.
So, now I wonder how long we will have to wait? Will she need to get signed to a new label before it can come out? Or will it come out as an enticement meant to garner label attention? Whatever the case, all I know is that I'm excited in a way I haven't been since when I would anticipate a new Holly Cole album being released or Basia getting back into the studio for the first time in years. For me, Haley is an artist to anticipate and savor. She is a modern day Linda Ronstadt or even to some extent an embodiment of the unique expression of Rickie Lee Jones. Haley is original enough and talented enough to get me just as worked up as I would for any of my other favorites.
Keep working on that EP, Haley. Keep writing and recording and doing what you do. Because I am waiting. And excited beyond words.

Holy cow ....would love to hear Haley sing "Chuck E's In Love"
BTW, I feel it in my bones, her cover 'that has been requested a lot' will be "Like A Star"

:heart: Linda puts out some serious power in her vocals, "kinda like you know who"

Either one will be a treat to our ears! I've been a fan of Blind Faith since back in the old days, but I too would love to hear her cover Like A Star. Can't Find My way is a close second though.
Cool song choice Midnight, I haven't heard that album in years. She used to date our Gov here in CA years back.

I absolutely LOVE Rickie's debut album and Chuck E.'s In Love is a great song. And, Midnight, you chose a song from my all-time favorite of Linda's albums, Hasten Down the Wind (wonderful, wonderful album right there).
I'm afraid I have to differ with you fellas about Like A Star. Yes, I love Haley's cover of it but it doesn't push my swan-radar (swandar?) button the way CFMWH does. We'll see, though. Part of the fun is the speculating and anticipating.

Tusk may have something there. Just imagine Haley with professional high-profile experience singing Like a Star today as opposed to a teenager before her musical training.
Maybe her new cover will be one most have not heard her perform.
Then again in June, Bonaroo is happening and Paul McCartney is slated to perform. Dreams come true when you want them to.

It's not clear to me we'll hear the EP anytime soon.
I think it's something to show the labels. If they pick her up the songs could become part of her next album. If they don't, she might release it herself and hopefully show there's demand for her music.
I hope the cover song that Haley was recording is intended to tide her fans over in the meantime (instead of being an addition to the EP).

I believe she could release a single without having to be signed. She has the backing of her management company and OLE. I would love to see Haley getting most of the royalties, and the monies that is due her without the burdens of a record label soaking up all her profits.
