Flooding in Chicago - Haleylvr4evr - 04-19-2013

On wednesday it literally POURED rain ALL day with scary thunder and lightning. The next day most of Chicagoland area was shut down caused by severe flooding. Schools were closed, power went out in some places, and cars were literally floating in the street so much that some people were using boats to get around town. Luckily my neighborhood was fine and our basement is perfectly dry since the house is uphill but I have heard stories and seen pictures of other parts of my town and others nearby.

I thought for sure my basement was going to flood, but I'm very thankful it didn't. Half my street was flooded too! Had to zig zag around closed streets to get to work yesterday. It rained 6 inches near me. Sad

My attention has been focused on Boston, so I wasn't aware there had been flooding in Chicago. Still cold temps there too.

There are so many random possibilities for chaos in our lives. I am so glad to know that our Chicago Haliens have been spared any major problems. If needed, call the Red Cross for boats and umbrellas...Tongue

Right now my prayer list is kind of long but y'all have been added! HeartAngelHeart

ETA: I am not affiliated with any particular religious organization so all my prayers are non-denominational and filled with hope and love for all...

Around 3-3:30am thursday morning I woke up to a huge thunder boom and it was so loud I dont think I went back to sleep until around 6 or 7. Yet my dogs were fine and seemed to sleep through the night and they usually get really scared, especially Penny (the older one),so much that we have to sit in a certain chair with them until they feel better.

I woke up at 4am and couldn't go back to sleep. I kept watching the water fill up in my back yard and listening to it pounding on my roof. AND, it was suppose to rain all day yesterday too (would have been an even bigger disaster) but the band of rain clouds moved more east and south of us.

We never experienced these type of rain storms when I was growing up here. The weather is definitely changing.Sad

We have Lakefront Property after rains like this:

But it wasn't deep enough to put my boats in the lake. View out my side office door. I had 3 sump pumps all going at the same time during the worst of it.

in lower levels. I've visited Chicago a couple times; love that area as much as I love Boston (and, I love Boston a bunch!)

In my country(Argentina) around two weeks back in Buenos Aires and
in La Plata city we have a similar storm but here we to lament around
60 peoples deceased under the water or by electricity damages.Our
