Mondegreens - My Alter Ego - 06-17-2013
Yeah, mondegreens -- you have all heard them. According to Wikipedia it's "the mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase as a result of near-homophony, in a way that gives it a new meaning. It most commonly is applied to a line in a poem or a lyric in a song."

Back in the day we were convinced part of the lyrics to Peter Gabriel's song Games Without Frontiers was "she's so popular" when it was actually "Jeux sans frontier" and my friend was sure in the BeeGees song Tragedy part of the refrain was "can't get it in" instead of the correct "tragedidy...(took liberty with the spelling here!)"! I suppose in the BeeGee song the two phrases could be one in the same

Here's another example. Listen to the video first. The first couple of phrases sound like the congregation is singing "Yes, I'm sitting, happy sailor.." The real lyrics are posted below. Also notice the woman who looks like Edith Bunker (All in the Family) at 1:25:
