Monty Python - Tusk - 01-08-2015
I swear there was a Python tread somewhere but I couldn't find it...so ..
Today is Elvis Presley's Birthday, Eric Idle of Python fame, retweeted and article listing facts about elvis, including, that he was a Monty Python Fan.

Elvis turns 80: 10 facts about The King: 4. Elvis was a huge @montypython fan @EricIdle : http://www.cbsnews.com/news/elvis-80th-birthday-10-fascinating-facts-about-elvis-presley/ …
Quote:4. Elvis was a huge Monty Python fan
According to the documentary "Monty Python: Almost the Truth," Elvis had watched "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" 45 times by the time he died. At one point he'd broken a finger: "Just a flesh wound," he said.
I thought that was funny because 'legend' has it that Elvis felt threatened by the British Invasion coming to the US spearheaded by the Beatles. He'd famously invited them to his place as a gesture, as Elvis was an Idol to the Beatles
Quote:So, even though universally famous and feted by 1965, as they were led across the white shag carpet into the sitting room where Elvis sat with his heavily made-up and bouffant-haired girlfriend Priscilla Beaulieu (wearing a sequinned mini-dress), they were nervous.
In fact, so overawed were they, that at first none of them could think of anything to say.
Anyway, it seemed to just be a ruse so he could 'size them up'
Quote:in 1970, when The Beatles had broken up, a by-then drug-soaked Presley made an extraordinary secret trip to Washington, was given an audience with President Nixon, and told him of his worries about the bad influence of stars like Lennon on American youth.
Quote:"Presley indicated that he thought the Beatles had been a real force for anti-American spirit. The President then indicated that those who use drugs are also those in the vanguard of anti-American protest."
"I'm on your side," Elvis told Nixon, adding that he'd been studying the drug culture and Communist brainwashing. Then he asked the president for a badge from the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.
"Can we get him a badge?" Nixon asked Krogh.
Krogh said he could, and Nixon ordered it done.
Elvis was ecstatic. "In a surprising, spontaneous gesture," Krogh wrote, Elvis "put his left arm around the President and hugged him."
So I thought it was funny Elvis purportedly was a 'fan' of the Beatles, but ended up offering to spy on them 'cause he actually thought they were a threat (to him/his career, but he said to the US).... That Eric Idle would tweet that he was a Python fan.
So I replied pointing this out to Idle's tweet,

@EricIdle but wasn't Elvis a Beatles' fan too?
(then volunteered to spy on them for the Nixon?)

@EricIdle ""Presley indicated that he thought the Beatles had been a real force for anti-American spirit."

To my surprise, Eric replied

@HaleysTusk He also complained they did drugs. Which was funny because he was on speed for the visit! But hell, we're all human.

RE: Monty Python - Tusk - 04-14-2015
The surviving Pythons have been very active recently, coinciding with the 40th Anniversary of Python's "Holy Grail".... they were planning to do more work, even toying with a tour, (which I think they nixed because Palin didn't want to travel... which is ironic, because he used to host a show about traveling around the world... it'w where I learned the word "Peripatetic", as in "The Peripatetic Micahel Palin" ) but I think they decided that they shouldn't take on too much, so have had limited appearances.
Anyway, possibly as part of this celebration, Python as released "Stephen Hawking sings Monty Python.... the Galaxy Song
The Galaxy song originally appeared in Python's "The Meaning of Life"
They also released a Hawking/Python version of the classic Arcade game, Asteroids, where Hawking is the 'Space ship' and the Asteroids are the heads of the Pythons
