Meat Loaf - Miguel - 01-27-2015
Today's local paper has an article on Meat Loaf, the singer.
I grew up in Houston, but I didn't realize he was from Dallas.
Quote:The invites sent to Thomas Jefferson High School alumni Monday night say only that Michael Aday will receive one of the four Distinguished Alumni Awards being handed out at a March 6 ceremony on the Northwest Dallas campus. But in 1965, when he graduated, Michael was known by another name: Marvin Lee Aday. A few years later came the other, far more famous moniker: Meat Loaf. As in, the 43-million-and-counting-selling Bat Out of Hell, Rocky Horror Picture Show, “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” Fight Club, Roadie. That Meat Loaf, the guy who was the subject of a brand-new BBC documentary just weeks ago.

For the first time in 50 years, Marvin or Michael or Meat — guess it all depends on how old you are, and whether you were a classmate — will return to TJ to collect his award and say a few words; it’s probably the closest we’ll ever get to a Meat Loaf commencement speech.
...“The years I was there we had the worst [expletive] football team in the world, and I thought I was a good football player,” he told an audience at the House of Blues in 2010. “I sucked. Good thing that I figured out what I was supposed to do, don’t ya think? But I’ll tell you what: Doing theater in New York and rock and roll and playing football, I’m not so sure it’s a safe thing to do. I’ve had 18 concussions, three knee surgeries, two shoulder [operations]. But you know what? I wouldn’t give it up for anything, because of fans like you.

Article notes the Monkees’ Mike Nesmith also attended the same school.
I saw Meat Loaf on Celebrity Apprentice in 2011. He seemed pretty emotional. Maybe those "18 concussions" were a factor.
I first heard of Meat Loaf while in HS in Houston. A guy that I didn't really hang out with told me about him in a hallway in passing. I think he might have had a Walkman on and I asked what he was listening to.
I think "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" was a tour de force. It was at turns sexy, dramatic and comedic. I now think it reflects Meat Loaf's theater background, which I didn't know about before.
Do you think Haley and Casey could pull off a cover of this? There don't seem to be any credible covers on YouTube.

That is a really interesting suggestion! I think Haley would give her part a whole different vibe and it would be fantastic. It would be fun to have an 8-minute Caley version of this. Indeed, a tour de force!
I was so much into this song when I was 16, a very long time ago (I had a cassette tape version including the spoken squabbling part in the end about who gets what in the divorce)!

I thought this was one of the strangest Idol Finale' duet pairings ever:
