Adam Lambert - My Alter Ego - 02-28-2015
Adam Lambert, as most of you know and whether or not you like him, has one of the most extraordinary voices that we will hear in our collective lifetime.
After an incredibly successful North American tour with Queen, followed, by an equally successful Aussieland tour, a smallish European tour (but larger than the 2013 tour) was staged, which seemed to begin with a New Year's Eve celebration in London. While looking for other recent concert uploads, I ran across an article which had a clip of Adam in an early production.
I'm still astonished that prior to AI, Adam was an understudy.

RE: Adam Lambert - mercfan3 - 02-28-2015
To me..objectively..Adam is the best contestant that's ever been on any reality singing competition show. I truly think Haley has the best voice..but Adam has the best combination of stage presence, vocals, performance ability..etc.. at least in my opinion. I mean really, who else (alive) could front Queen? Maybe Lady Gaga? (And even then, her voice is probably not big enough.)
He was the only contestant I can honestly say I felt "lucky" to watch him perform every week. Like "damn..people who don't watch Idol are sincerely missing out."
And the fact that he was in Wicked prior to Idol...well, that just makes me like him more.

mercfan, that Adam was merely an understudy in a touring cast of Wicked boggles my mind.
Haley's voice is likely the best "untrained" voice, but Adam's voice just goes beyond, besides the stage presence and performance ability that he consistently displays. He's in his mid 30's now?? At some point soon, we might begin seeing a drop off on that astonishing range he's shown, so people, enjoy now.
RE: Adam Lambert - mercfan3 - 02-28-2015
Adam's pitch control isn't as good as Haley's, but he does have a larger range. (Although, Adam's pitch control is quite good and Haley's range is pretty darn big.) For me, Haley gets the nod because of everything she can do with her voice. The control she has is unbelievable. It's actually not surprising that she's involved in voice over work, my guess is she's quite good at imitating a lot of sounds. (Actually, recently Christina Aguilera did a few pretty spot on impressions of different musical artists..and it got me thinking it's likely a talent a lot of great singers have.)
And yes, it's amazing he was an understudy..and I'm actually hoping that Adam does a broadway show at some point. Darren Criss just signed on to star in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and as excited as I am to see Darren in that, I can't help but think of what a perfect role that would be for Adam.
He's just incredible. And I'm excited for his new album. These shows have really had some incredible performers and vocalists. Like I said, he's my choice for "all around best." But when it comes to talking about a pure vocalist, I would put him behind Clarkson and Haley..and debatable between him and Tessanne Chin from The Voice. (Whose Voice was just flawless.) But that doesn't matter, because when it comes to the whole package..I don't know if there's any entertainer matching Lambert now a days. (Once again, maybe Gaga, Usher, Aguilera or Beyonce. But I'd side with Lambert.) I'd love to see his next album be a huge success for him. But I don't think he's too upset with the way his music career has gone.
BTW: If you want to talk about most talented/best untrained voice..I would actually go with my boy DeAndre Brackensick. He's now hitting whistle notes..something I didn't even know men could do. (All the way up to an E6..and he sustains it.) His range is now over four octaves..that he uses. The kid over sings some..and probably takes too many liberties with the melody..but I shake my head at the talent there.

Adam and Haley are my favorite voices from Idol.
I hope his next album, The Original High, which he says, "feels like a new era for me -- emotionally, lyrically, sonically," is more to my liking than his earlier work.

While I did like What Do You Want From Me, I haven't cared for anything else that he's released. However, his gigs with Queen are probably paying him well, so it allows him the opportunity to experiment without it being financially successful for him or musically enjoyable for some of his would be audience. (His Glamberts likely don't care -- it's Adam!!)
Given the duet between Angie Miller and Adam (and how respectful he was of her and how she didn't really reciprocate), it would be interesting to hear what Haley and Adam might be able to do together, should they ever decide to duet.
EDIT: And mercfan, I agree with you regarding your other vocal choices, including DeAndre. That kid has an astonishing voice (I haven't heard him in a while, but he amazed me when he was on Idol. I felt so bad for him -- and Jessica -- and, well, all of the younger contestants, because I thought that they struggled the most with the conflicting information that they were receiving from Jimmie Iovine and the judges). While I like to be able to pick and choose with Kelly, I recognize that her voice is powerful and that she has such a winning personality, one easily overlooks any vocal missteps. Tessanne -- flawless. That describes her voice perfectly.

I really like that New Years video. Fun concert with excellent HD quality. Adam is quite a showman and filling the Freddie Mercury role he is perfect.

I've watched that video a couple of times since I came across it a couple of weeks ago. Adam really seems comfortable now, and this show, to me, is the best performance he's done with Queen that I've seen. Perhaps because it was a shorter show or, perhaps it was the location (with that extraordinary pipe organ in the background), but to me there was just the right amount of showmanship, without being campy -- or without him being "overly" respectful, which I think the first small European tour (2012) displayed.
