John, that was interesting -- well, "interesting" isn't really the right word. It's appalling, but not at all shocking --which in itself, is appalling.
However, here's a comment from someone regarding the most recent Reality Check that speaks/reveals why the subject of the above video can happen and be considered "acceptable"

I added the emphasis regarding "autotune." As long as people operate as though this is "SOP" (and it appears that there are), it will be very difficult to combat the (ugh) trend...

rBritany Spears has a 2 year residency in Vegas and all her songs are lip synced at least she isn't Milly vanilly but she still has a good gig going on and her fans know she is faking it but still dig her and, pay good money to see hereWTF, auto tune is for singers who cant sing for shit HALEY still that virgin voice that hasn't bin corrupted by the Machine.So called artest who lip sync or have there voice auto tuned are terrorist( for lack of a better word) to the music industry

As an almost life long Britney fan...I can say I think people make a mistake when they consider her a musician..She's not. She had a hand in writing great songs. She's got a decent voice that's distinct. But really, she's an entertainer. Going to her concerts was going to a "Show." And in her prime, she was damn good at it.
That being said, a majority of those leaked audios are fake or were recorded when she was simply singing along with the track but actually focused on her dancing (which is her concert.). There's plenty of instances of her clearly singing live. (And the irony here, of course, is that her label ruined her voice. )
