The Proof - Miguel - 11-30-2015
Quote:Los Angeles-based four-piece group the proof have a funky soul sound that goes down easier than the smoothest whiskey. They’re a new band (formed this summer and began recording a month later!), but you’d never know it from the incredibly tight grooves they lay down on this new single. It starts out mellow, with a spotlight on lead singer Drew Dolan’s warm, bluesy vocals and subdued keys.
Then the real magic kicks in, courtesy of funk-filled bass, guitar and percussion. This is a gem of a tune from a band we’re going to keep a watchful eye on. They’re brewing up a batch of sweet sonic voodoo we want to hear more of soon. Stay tuned for details about the finished album.

http://therevue.ca/2015/10/26/melodic-tonic-vol-22/ Thanks, Miguel. Loved this sound. Wouldn't have loved it as much without the horns in the background; hope they're a permanent fixture. Looking forward to more.

On September 1st, The Proof will be opening for The Main Squeeze at the Troubadour.
TMS worked with a "legendary producer" to put the finishing touches on their sophomore album: Randy Jackson.

Quote:The result is a musical melting pot of funk, soul, rock 'n' roll and rhythm and blues that captured the attention of producer and former "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson. Jackson heard of The Main Squeeze through the group's former manager and flew out to Bloomington, Indiana, to catch a show at the band's old college haunt, the Bluebird.
"He stayed after the show and called us back for an encore," Silverstein says. "He pulled us aside after the show and invited us to record the new album out in Los Angeles. He was just blown away. He loved the show."
"Mind Your Head," The Main Squeeze's second full-length, was released in September. Jackson produced the record, and Silverstein says working with the former Journey session bassist was a "great learning experience." He says Jackson was very present and attentive as a producer.
"He's always in it," Silverstein says. "When he's in the room, he's fully in it. ... He'd blow my mind sometimes. For instance, we'd do sessions for 8 or 9 hours at a time, and he was always super focused and involved."
Jackson even hung out with the band during breaks and chatted about everything from sports to dating to, of course, music. Silverstein says he never knew how much of a fan Jackson was of jazz-funk-fusion, a genre that deeply influences The Main Squeeze.
"He loves the same music that we draw inspiration from," Silverstein says.
There is one thing that really surprised him about Jackson, though.
"He never says 'dawg,' not once," Silverstein says, referring to Jackson's "American Idol" catchphrase. "I was expecting a couple more 'dawgs' out of him, but not one."
