Haley's "Hit the Ground Runnin'" vs. Ace's "How Long" - Rcul4u998 - 05-01-2016 So, "How Long" by Ace just happened to come on in the car earlier. And the very first thing I was thinking when it started is how similar it sounds to "Hit the Ground Runnin'." I don't know if this has been noticed before, but I know people always make comparison between Haley and 70s funk/rock, but this is closest musical similarity I have actually seen between one of Haley's songs and a classic from the 70s. Take a listen. Haley's has more guitars and more drums, but they are definitely very similar. Could Interscope maybe have paid for sampling credits? This is one of those things I thought was so wrong about the Marvin Gaye suite against Blurred lines... .. times have styles to them and taking a style from the times really shouldn't be a case of plagiarizing a song.... ...but I guess it's all up to juries to decide based upon a very lax standard of prepoderence of the evidence. here is song I thought of listening to ace I'll probably think of better ones later These two stones songs don't have the prolonged introduction but songs at the time started with a base line and some percussion frequently I'll think of another better one But then if just the start is worthy of royalties.. what of the other parts? pretty soon you'd be paying for royalties for the whole song to a dozen different artists! here's one that starts with a different percussion but a base rhythm (10 seconds in) more like htgr I think my biggest point is : "Wouldn't it be cool to start the song with a rhythym and a base line for a few bars like they did in the 70s?" "yeah .. lets improvise and try 5 or 10" -- hour later "cool we've settled on this one" -- two days later "crap, that one we did is too like one someone did in 1972" "we never heard it" "its the law we'd be sued" "ok what about that other one we liked" "oh that's like another song that starts with the rythym and base line" "crap.. what do we do listen to 175 songs that started bare and be sure we're not like any of them?" "yeah.. we' can't be creative we need to be historical researchers or stay away from any feel that's been done lots of times before" RE: Haley's "Hit the Ground Runnin'" vs. Ace's "How Long" - Rcul4u998 - 05-01-2016 I know. I know there are so many songs that sound similar, because realistically, there are only a certain number of notes and chords that can be played to produce a desired effect. How Long and HTGR start very similar but then are very different once they progress to the end. I was just wondering if the song could have been intentionally sampled for the basic melody. |
