CoolBig Grin Awesome.

Absolutely love the look and sound!!! We always knew she would have thrived in that era... maybe she will lead a revival?

So cool !

I'm loving the way she's looking these days... always beautiful, but women improve with age Smile

And such command..

... and yeah she's killing that era!

There is good and bad with this. The good, of course, is that Haley now has a manager looking out for her best interests. I'm happy with that, and perhaps it's to be expected.

The bad is that we now might have access to less live videos. That would be sad for us-- especially for shows that most Haliens couldn't reasonably be expected to fly to see. I suppose they (Management, AKA The Man) know, or should know, that one of the reasons Haley is getting so much support is because of all the videos posted of her live performances. How many people have sunk many hours down the 'rabbit hole of Haley videos' after their WTF moment?? Hmmm. You can't buy that kind of marketing.

RE: EUROPEAN "Better" Tour (SPRING 2017) - XAtlantic - 05-25-2017

So it's 2 a.m. now and Tusk and me were looking through the material, couldn't just go to sleep ... all my material is now with Tusk.

It was a fantastic concert. The weather was nice and breezy late spring/early summer weather, lots of people were in their feet in that area going to bars, restaurants and concerts, street musicians were playing. The venue looks decrepit from the outside but is pretty ok from the inside. As we were waiting, John Notto and Darwin Johnson walked up to the entrance and John recognized Tusk immediately and said his hellos. We were only 8 at the meet and greet, a bit of sound check, a signature, a picture, and Haley chatting with everybody and looking energetic, awake, fit ... same as Angie who sold T-Shirts and CDs to us outside and is just every inch as friendly and sweet and with it as Haley.

The venue has several rooms, this was the "black room" with a bar in the back and a raised stage in front. It wasn't completely filled I think; there was a good crowd, all ages with many below 30. The concert started some 30 minutes behind schedule which is totally normal for these types of shows and was full of perfect energy from the first song, a joy and celebration and great musical art with so many small and large things that made this a real deal as we knew it would be.

The band is fantastic, one could tell how they cherished the sound and appreciated the musical moments. There was a good bit of funk mixed in, and rock, and jazz element from Jesse Elder who played it all without any notations from his head, often with eyes closed and listening after what was happening, but also fromt he others. Willie-Ray Moore on drums is really good and even sang a bit with Haley and sounded deep and sweet and full, which I like a lot, it fit really well. John Notto had some short solos that were a thrill to hear.

Haley performed, celebrated, lived, created, re-created, developed, pushed and formed and breathed into real being every song, giving it all. I am amazed how she can do that for 90 minutes, it is a true gift. LIWFF was so intense and personal, she sat down on a stool, but at the same time with a much wider message. Black Hole Sun was a masterpiece and it was like I discovered the song for the first time for real. Keep Coming Back fit is really well with a Listen Up! kind of musicality, but delivered in the style of this band with Haley extending it to a multi-minute soundscape. My Cake as the closing piece was a masterpiece of transitions and energy and she told us that we'll each have our own cake, too. The HR3 covers had incredible sound, they just flow so naturally and beautifully, somehow different from the songs on Better and really good in their way. I have a feeling they might work really well commercially as well, they might get a great audience. CHFIL was a special moment and the crowd started singing parts, Haley even turned the microphone toward the crowd at one point to let it flow. I don't know, I lack the words to really do it justice, it was a great experience and a celebration of great music.

Afterwards if you bought a CD and a T-Shirt (10 Euros and 15 for the Better tour T-shirt (with the US and old Europe dates) or 20 for the CHFIL T-shirt) you could stay after the show and basically the same as for VIP happened, photos and signatures and a brief chat. Angie took many of the photos for people. The other band members did not come out.

And then we left and we were happy. The staff at the venue and Haley's tout manager were really relaxed and professional watching things, knowing what they want, but friendly and open, that was nice, too. And so here we are, reviewing the material to find the parts that might be good enough to use (often lights were low or all blue or red and that doesn't really help the quality). And leaving it to Tusk to take it forward with his keen eye and ear and passion for quality that works, with what was possible.

What a concert! Still can't believe we got to see a full Haley concert with such a great band right here in Europe.

Amsterdam, Zurich, Paris, UK, Dublin: you're right to be excited!

On top of the views, (which are significant), there is also the "buy in" for the people posting ...

.. they say once you do someone a "favor" you actually have an "investment" in them and you'll do even more for their success. Even people who aren't nearly as professional as Tusk get some views and they have their own social networks that exposes the music to new groups of people than might trend through their feeds otherwise..

I'm not sure of what they would be afraid of ? I think poor quality videos are pretty clearly amateur jobs... and can't reflect too badly as anyone seeing them would know what they are ?

Do they think it would cannibalize live sales if people could see the shows without paying? I'd think it would be the other way around... like "whoa.. wish I was there to hear it in full form"

Thanks so much for the recap XAtlantic! I'll be Xing the Atlantic in a week. 3 cities in 4 days. Did many in the audience have cellphones/cameras rolling or only a sparse few? Did Angie seem to be handling the Language & currency differences well at the Merch table? Did Haley make any mention of the tragedy in Manchester?

Yes, a good number of cell phones filming, but mostly recording this or that, a song or two, a clip, not the whole thing as far as I could tell. Not a problem. Many just enjoyed without filming. Angie ... I'd be jetlagged and exhausted but they just radiate energy and dedication. My secret wish she'd join for a duet didn't come true, well, maybe next time! Surely no problem with currencies (but what would I know!), nice round sums for merch. Language? Everybody knows English over here! And uses it with ease. Manchester ... Haley says with passion as she has always done that love and music are so worth fighting for, so that is the message, enough said!

Have a pleasant Xing! Watch out for icebergs in the middle!

RE: EUROPEAN "Better" Tour (SPRING 2017) - Tusk - 05-25-2017

I'm hoping I get better result in Paris, the wash of blue and red stage light totally washed Haley out alot of the show, had they just kept it white, there'd be no problem... Haley's manager assured me that London will have the best stage lighting...

On the subject of posting my videos... I completely understand this... Haley is on the cusp of taking a next step... the US tour band composition was no doubt very good, but this iteration, for the Europe tour felt somehow better, not a knock in anyway to Jacob....just it felt more like a band, a unity... I can't put my finger on it... the US tour band was not insufficient in anyway....just this sounded better.... could it be Jesse? He was directing the band at sound check. I really was dismissive of him at PMJ, I mean compared to Scott, but seeing him live for myself, and hearing the difference in the band.. he has made me a believer....

Anyways, as I said, I had no problem with the manager request on making me aware that they cared how the videos turn out, especially after being chosen HOTM... I feel it's sort of like a test... Yes, what you did was 'good enough' when things didn't 'matter' as much...but we're ready to take a next step and we want 'Better' In fact it made me feel much better that they appear to be making moves towards promoting Haley in a better light. Me moaning about the restrictions would make it about 'me'.... instead, I see it as a challenge. I've always said I do what I do to support Haley...they have worked with me, been extremely professional, not demanding, just stating that this is the way it is, This is Haley's career and we care how you, as someone 'known' as promoting Haley, puts out to represent her. My channel has officially been placed on her web site in the HOTM so there's an official 'blessing' of sorts, so how should I respond when they let me know that they care and should be able to judge what I post to represent her?

This is a step forward in her career, how I react to the request to be more aware of the quality of what I, as someone Haley has recently acknowledged, post to represent her matters.

I don't know if you notice, on our own, Rachel and I have sensed this next step and 'combined forces'.... my channel has a page on her site of my best video playlists, starting w/ Haley's Journey and now I will add "haleyreinhartnews.com" to any future videos I post, as well as in the video description.

This is growth people, moving forward.... if we worry about not seeing the next video performance no matter the quality...does that not say we're more concerned with what OUR needs are and not necessarily what's the best for Haley and her career?

My channel has served it's purpose absent of real Haley promotion.... Haley and her team have signaled they are moving beyond the odd Room 5 performances... this is moving towards the 'professionalism' of support we have longed for Haley for years. If I want to prove to them that I (and Rachel) are up to the task, then we ought not to think this as a negative and understand, this is what's best for Haley.....

I not once saw this as a negative turn of events, but more a challenge, we appreciate what you've done at this point, we are moving forward, if you want to move forward with us, then you need to understand we are now setting a standard for what we feel represents Haley the best.

This is a good thing people Big Grin

(and I have said again and again last night to XAtlantic, there was nothing condescending, elitist or forceful about our exchange, he acknowledged what I had done previously, "It's why we're telling you what we expect", I never took that personally or negatively...it's a signalling to me of a new expectation for Haley and I for one welcome it Cool )

It's possible I may not be able to post any video from Berlin, specifically because of the stage lighting... I've seen the instagram posts of others of the show and they all confirm that it wasn't my equipment... almost all of them have Haley in this bluish or reddish glow...completely unacceptable....

Plus there's the matter of my equipment... my 'best work' was done on my home PC with decent speakers.... I bought a new laptop and upgraded my editing software, but the laptop speakers are pretty bad. When XAtlantic and I heard the iPhone video for the first time we were crestfallen, it was pretty bad. XAtlantic plugged in a tiny speaker and even that was an improvement... so it's an equipment issue. Listening on earbuds isn't good enough to work with the audio either....bad equipment. If I present something for them to look at, it has to be with better equipment than I presently have. At the very least, I have to be able to listen to the audio on good equipment to make the right edits worthy of posting,

So you see? Haley's management, being honest about their expectation ended up making me looking harder about my process...what I consider 'good enough' to post... it was a timely 'wake up' call... I might have posted this distorted video w/ audio I edited hearing it through poor equipment..... But now, I know they expect better... I cannot argue with that call. This is and has always been about supporting Haley.

RE: EUROPEAN "Better" Tour (SPRING 2017) - john - 05-25-2017

Thanks XAtlantic and Tusk for your reports on this exciting experience with Haley and company. It sounds like a good time was had by all! The band from last year seemed really tight and professional, and by the sound of things this one may be an even better fit for Haley. They should only improve with a few more gigs under their belts. The clips of some of her new covers sound great (that White Rabbit clip is very cool) and I''m eager to hear her performing these songs. And with all the musicians she brought in to the studio, when the album comes out many of these songs are likely to be fresh even after she has performed them. Since she has been performing more regularly in the UK, as well as recently in Paris and Amsterdam, I would guess that she will be getting fairly full venues.

RE: EUROPEAN "Better" Tour (SPRING 2017) - Tom22 - 05-25-2017

Great attitude Tusk(as always!),

And great news on the band. I thought Luttrell was super great too but from the brief excerpts I heard I have a real eagerness to hear this sound.

... JL is a super musician but he was bringing a lot of his own sound to the game(an it was a good sound)...and I'm guessing we're getting closer and closer to where Haley really wants to push it on her own...a sound she's been hoping for?

>>>One suggestion on taking the music sound to the next step:

At least maybe ask the question to people in the industry "Should I be mixing with headphones?"

I suspect that mixing to the sound of your speakers, no matter how good the speakers, is mixing to ambient conditions in the room you're in and to the quality of your speakers more than mixing to the headphone range that may (or may not) be more consistent..

...at least ask the question to the pro's.

Again ... thanks so much as always for the tunes...
... you're right we shouldn't be jealously wanting them for themselves...

and it is awesome to have a manager that cares and is involved in pushing the online "marketing" to it's highest.
