Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - Miguel - 06-27-2017 Quote:Miguel @HaleyFansDotCom 3m Quote: Miguel @HaleyFansDotCom 3m They may have moved the release date back as part of a strategy to have Haley's album be more top of mind when it comes to Grammy voting. Keep in mind the Grammys are awarded by The Recording Academy, and Haley's album involved prior winners going to great lengths to record live to tape. Consider: Quote:The Academy Awards occur every late February and films that win awards typically see a boost in sales. To take advantage of this, the studios release films they deem "Oscar worthy" in the fall, before the eligibility cut-off, so that the films remain fresh in the memories of critics and Academy members right before the Awards, increasing their chances of being nominated. I feel certain it'll be entered. They receive 20,000 entries every year. The question is whether it will be nominated. I think the chances are good given the track records of those involved. Quote:Awards in several categories are distributed annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to "honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position." Sept. 22nd is just three weeks before 1st round voting begins. 5 weeks before it ends. Quote:Key Dates RE: Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - reinhartedinwnyh - 06-27-2017 Agreed, Miguel. I've been telling anyone who will listen that I have a hunch about this album, especially because of the heavy hitters Haley has behind her on it...and the timing you express. The stars are aligning. Got get'em Haley!!! RE: Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - XAtlantic - 06-27-2017 That would be fantastic ... Also this album is not just "another record" to consider, an attractive story is also available to tell about it and engage with, that whole story about remembering the art of the 60s for this time, about the analog recording, the people involved ... it offers great angles for reporting and discussion and putting it out there. RE: Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - Jastal - 06-27-2017 A Grammy nomination would be unbelievable but my hope is for some modest radio play. How likely is a nomination without it? So far, her success on YouTube w\PMJ and a gold record w\CHFIL hasn't translated to mainstream media visibility such as Ellen or late night TV. It really highlights just how very difficult it can be to break through. I still think it will happen eventually.... but after following her career since Idol, and realizing how many talented folks are competing for the same opportunities (some for many, many years), I have changed my expectations. So maybe the 60's aspect of this release & her team's reputation will be enough to get the right attention w/nomination.... or maybe just another step forward. Regardless, I am very excited for WTS!! RE: Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - Miguel - 06-27-2017 I think a Grammy nomination is more likely than radio play. Quote:A Nominations Review process was established in 1989 as an additional round of checks and balances to eliminate the potential for a popularity bias that puts emerging artists, independent music, and late-year releases at a disadvantage. She might not be nominated for "Best New Artist" (due to a lack of original material), but the album could win for "Best Engineered Album" and the like. That would draw the attention of audiophiles. New this year: Quote:Grammy Awards voting will now be online RE: Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - Jastal - 06-27-2017 Interesting perspective Miguel... I hope your right and the audio geeks help to raise awareness to the Grammy voters... ![]() RE: Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - Nicicarus - 06-27-2017 With the new season of Idol approaching we can hope/expect a performance/cameo/mentor appearance by Haley. With previous seasons she's been fortunate to return on more than one occasion and with solid screen time. Grammy nom is unlikely, BUT with Concord behind her and this album it's not impossible. RE: Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - Miguel - 09-22-2017 When I started this thread in June, I felt like the album had a good chance of being nominated based on technical proficiency. After hearing it, I do feel it would be worthy. However I no longer feel the late release date is part of a strategy tied to the awards. I think it was due to wait times at the vinyl pressing plant. Absolutely! The production is totally first rate! I really hope it receives the accolades it deserves. RE: Calling it now: "What's That Sound?" will be nominated for a 2017 Grammy - Merlin - 09-29-2017 I love Haley as much as the next guy but this is kind of delusional. There is no reason to expect that this album is anywhere close to being on the Grammy's radar. |
