First Singles and Albums You Ever Purchased? - Miguel - 12-13-2011
The first two singles I purchased (on the same day at TG&Y):
PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC (1976)
Quote:The single hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 18, 1976 and was also number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart.
DISCO LADY (1976)
Quote:"Disco Lady" is a 1976 single for Johnnie Taylor that went on to become his biggest hit. It spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and six weeks on the Billboard R&B chart in the U.S.
My first LP purchase: BOSTON (1976)
Quote:The debut album, Boston, released on August 8, 1976, was an enormous success. The record ranks as the second best-selling debut album in U.S. history with over 17 million copies sold.

I'm embarrassed to say it was Herman's Hermits in 1965. I vividly remember my older brother giving me crap about it.

John listed Herman's Hermits as well. Y'all might like this Herman site that has a bunch of magazine covers/stories. The covers feature The Beatles, Byrds and Rolling Stones among others.

I can remember as a youngin putting my older sister's 45 single of "The Twist" on the record player and listening to this over and over...I was really young
This could have been early signs of obsessive-compulsive fandom for a specific artist...at least that's what I seem to remember, before they cranked up the voltage, during my therapy sessions at Haley House treatment center

Been a Beatles fan since the beginning. Here's a picture of my kids taken back in the early 90's singing "I Want To Hold Your Hand".
