When I called her last year to ask her to sing the National Anthem at the Coalfield Festival and she said “yes,” I was thrilled because we were helping her start her dream in her small hometown of Mortons Gap. She belted out our anthem as no other could have. We know her parents and especially her grandparents, Sherry and Tink Richardson, are very proud of her and her accomplishments. I warn her on her love for American history; it is very addictive and time consuming, but well worth all the time spent with it. Bel, remember we are behind you all the way. We are encouraging everyone to go out and support her when she takes the stage at the city’s final Friday Night Live summer series event on Aug. 10.
