RE: Fine Music - Orchestra, Big Band, Classical and Such
^^LDH, holy schnitzenbokken or whatever phrase you might conjure up (I'm not that creative).
Both vids are terrific and feature wonderful musicians.
But the Imani Winds performing Piazolla? O -- M -- G!!!!!!! For those of you who think that classical musicians are a bunch of stodgy, doddering (old fool type) folks, take a listen. The intricacy and absolutely stellar musicianship of this is astonishing! Loved it!!
Lovinda, my hat is off to you for this find.

As I was just sitting here reveling in your reply MAE, feeling like I just won the Nobel Peace Prize or something, Midnightblue’s post of Jethro Tull, “Locomotive Breath” came charging in and reminded me that “Charlie stole the handle, but the train it won’t stop rolling, no way to slow down”.
So MAE, thank you, your reply felt really good. And Bluesman, good selection of which “Locomotive Breath” video to post. That’s my second favorite all time Jethro Tull song (“Living In The Past” being the 1st). And yes, nobody plays the flute like Ian Anderson- That’s for sure.

RE: Fine Music - Orchestra, Big Band, Classical and Such
Of course Jethro Tull will forever be remembered in many Metal Heads' memories for the travesty of winning the very first "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental" Grammy.
Who did they beat out for the best Metal/Rock Grammy?
Why Metallica of Course
Jethro Tull was neither Hard Rock nor Heavy Metal.....
Quote:The Academy recognized hard rock music artists for the first time in 1989 under the category Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental, combining two of the most popular music genres of the 1980s. Jethro Tull was given that award for the album Crest of a Knave, beating Metallica, who were expected to win with the album ...And Justice for All. This choice led to widespread criticism of the Academy, as journalists suggested that Jethro Tull's music did not belong in the hard rock or heavy metal genres. In response, the Academy created the categories Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance, separating the genres. The incident is often considered an example of the Grammy Awards being out of touch with popular sentiment, and was even named the biggest upset in Grammy history by Entertainment Weekly.

Agreed MAE, and I could go on and on for pages about the "Imani Winds" woodwind quintet, and I could watch that video a thousand times and still get amazed with every new view, but I’ll just give y'all a link to the iTunes page as I thank God for ears to hear and eyes to see:
Here's another little free taste:
Imani Winds - Valerie Coleman's "Umoja"
I've purchased everthing I could find from this group at one time or another. I feel the same way as I do about Haley Reinhart; in that, this wonderful and awesome quintet, "Imani Winds" also deserves my financial support. I can't even imagine how hard they've all worked to get as good and as modern-day-friendly as they are.
PS. MAE, don't miss my previous reply (with thanks) to your intitial reply.

LDH, I did not miss your earlier reply and am awed by both this quintet and what you seem to think of my opinion (and that part is both humbling and frightening).
I had heard of the Imani Winds before, and probably have heard their works played, but you've pointed me to some specific pieces that display how extraordinarily good they are musically. Thank you! Are there specific CDs of theirs you would recommend?
Never mind -- I just placed an order for my first two Imani Winds CDs -- thanks for bringing them to my attention, LDH!

LOL - Ya I suppose it could be - LOL -- But I was just trying to say how much I enjoy our common likes when it comes to music.
Also, no matter which two CDs you ordered, they're all good IMHO. My personal favorite is, "The Classical Underground", But I love them all ("This Christmas" will be spinning in mi casa soon enough ). I'm not sure which one you'd like best, but I'm guessing, "Josephine Baker: A Life of le Jazz Hot!".

LOL -- "The Classical Underground" and "This Christmas" are the two that I ordered (because, as far as I'm concerned, you can never start listening to Christmas music too soon!). So "...le Jazz Hot" will be the next one.
