WM return policy/process?

I was just looking at Walmart's site and they show "Listen Up!" is available for "Free store pickup as soon as 8/24."

If I was to purchase 10 CDs, have them shipped to the store and then returned them for a refund, what would they do with them?

- Put them on the shelf?
- Send them back to the warehouse?

Best Buy also offers a ship to store option.


Walmart's return policy:

CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, audiotapes, videotapes and video games: Must be returned unopened. If the item is defective, it can be returned within 90 days with a receipt and the original packaging. Defective items may be exchanged for the same title.

I assume any unopened CD can be returned for any reason. Correct?

My guess is you are trying to find a way to get Haley's album on the shelves at WM. It could work if they don't make you return them to the place where you ordered them initially. WM may not be selling much music right now because it caters to bargain shoppers .and many bargain shoppers don't have alot of disposable income right now...I think this may be the reason the record industry is taking such a hit.

I think I do -- that I could, for example, buy Haley's CD from Barnes and Noble, not open it, and take it to Walmart as a "return" and it wouldn't be questioned.

Having worked at a Barnes and Noble, and having seen that happen too many times, I'm a little uncomfortable with it as a tactic.

What Cherelann stated about lack of disposable income makes a lot of sense.

No, no. I was thinking we could order CDs from Walmart.com using the ship-to-store option. Then return the items at a local Walmart unopened. If they are not sent back, they would likely be placed on the shelves -- we would be ordering inventory for them to stock.

Pretty sure you pay for the items before they ship them to the store. If you didn't pick them up and return them, you're likely out the money you put up.

Be great if WM just kept LU in stock like they were contracted to do

It would be. I imagine WM has met some minimum standard set forth in the contract. Before I made this post, I did some research and found an article from 2005 that said a WM store stocked 4K-5K titles but 30K new albums were released each year. WM carried about 750 new albums a year. That would be about 15 new albums a week. So I can't imagine they would commit to more than two weeks of stocking for a new artist.
