"Chrissy and Mr. Jones" are a black couple and the majority of these tweets appear to be from African-Americans. So it seems the show is exposing Haley to a new demographic.

Maybe...but they need to release "Undone" as a single soon...2012 Grammy nominees are announced this December for the February 2013 show... Hopefully Interscope/19 sees how much just limited exposure to "Undone" via that VHS show is boosting her sales.....
Fortunately, “Best New Artist” Grammy nominations and winners are often more about the artistry than the commercial success. Just ask Esperanza Spalding “Best New Artist” award winner from 2011 beating out Justin Bieber. Until the Grammy nominations are announced in December I’m going to continue to wear my Haley rose colored glasses for a Grammy nomination and performance.

James---thanks for the note, and you are right. The last two Best New Artists, Esperanza Spalding and Bon Iver, probably did not have songs on the charts, so winning that award does not require big hits or big sales. And the good news is that Haley has participated in events sponsored by the Grammys and is getting industry exposure, with all of of her song placements, etc in TV shows, promos, etc. So hopefully, the Grammy voters are familiar with her music. And, add in the impressive achievement of making performances at Lollapalooza and Carnegie Hall in the same year....
Just getting a nomination would be huge. The only American Idol ever nominated for this award was Carrie Underwood, and she won. Other Idol stars have won Grammys, but Carrie was the only one to win the Best New Artist. Fingers crossed for another one in 2013....
