Listen Up! was released May 22nd. I think by August 3rd, when Haley played Lollapalooza, Interscope had already made the decision to not support it and Haley. That's two months.

Last night I realized one of the biggest flaws in the release of Listen Up! -- they screwed with the original release date.

As I recall it, the original plan would have released Free in January or February. Then they moved it back, apparently to coincide with Haley's appearance on Idol.

Here's the thing: When Haley appeared on Idol and Conan she didn't have an album available for purchase. That hurt sales. Big time.

They should have released Free in January or February and then timed the release of Listen Up! to coincide with Haley's appearance on Idol.

Actually, in retrospect, they should have released Undone then.

Change those two actions and Listen Up! would have got off to a faster start, which might have been the catalyst for bigger things. They could have then rolled out Oh My around the time Idol ended and summer was beginning.

That's correct. Remember that Free was released as the first single due to 'political' reasons or promises to the writers.

I agree with you Miguel, Interscope’s actions suggest that they had given up on Listen Up! and Haley by the time she performed at Lolla. From a biased fan’s perspective it makes no sense unless music business history suggests that an album opening with sales of only 20K has very little chance of success and therefore warrants little in the way of extended investment. Another possibility is that early in their business relationship conflicts arose between Haley the artist and Interscope the business that we will never know about.

Interscope followed their standard operating procedures. They supported Free but when it didn't catch on they moved on. There was no highly placed champion for Listen Up! and Haley. No one to say, "Wait, unlike most debut albums, there's more than one piece of potential gold here."

Now there's the spirit!! We are all thinking doom and gloom. It is hard not to - everyone fears the unknown. I am sure she is still working on her career path (how she wants it to go) and has all along. She has gotten quite a few great gigs on her own - her management team had nothing to do with Irvin Mayfield, Lolla and I would be willing bet the Ali birthday bash in Las Vegas. She sang at the BMI awards and has many great contacts in the industry. Let's not forget she is a song writer too!!
