She's allowed to sing her songs, right. Even if she can't release them for singles.

Not necessarily...according to Miguel's post, sometimes the venue pays to a fund, to allow their performers to perform songs in that venue, so Haley wouldn't necessarily have to pay to perform them

"Club owners pay the Performance Rights Organizations a flat annual license fee that allows artists to perform copyrighted music in their club. This is how any artist is able to stand up on any stage and sing a Bob Dylan song."

From a practical point of view, songwriters stand to benefit from sales if the original artist who recorded a song continues to perform it.

Of course, if one of the other copyright owners (her co-songwriters) objects then there might be a kerfuffle, but that's pretty unlikely.

Everybody sure gets a piece of the pie! Sounds like it's not even worth it to be the singer. By time the record company, manager, writers, publishing co, fellow musicians, etc get their share, there's only penny's left. This is the first time I heard of performance fees.

Wish Haley would do another stage it. She gets more direct money that way doesn't she? (after Stage it 40% take) and we can help her by tipping.

Thanks everyone, I've been lurking for a bit..but I finally decided to join. Wish it was under better circumstances though. Still, for some reason I'm pretty positive about this. Haley is just too talented to disappear.
