Everybody sure gets a piece of the pie! Sounds like it's not even worth it to be the singer. By time the record company, manager, writers, publishing co, fellow musicians, etc get their share, there's only penny's left. This is the first time I heard of performance fees. 
Well, Babbs, the fellow musicians and the song writers certainly do deserve a piece of the pie. (I don't quite know how that works out when the singer is also the songwriter.) Back when I was a member of the musician's union, it was my understanding a part of the dues that I paid went towards paying those royalty fees for the songs we played. (Except for the one we played written by the band leader, but never copyrighted. We didn't have to pay for it, but then again, she didn't get anything back as a result.)
