I could say so much more but half of it would be speculation.

I do know that having 17 great songs (those 4 unreleased ones are great.. let yourself be beautiful is going through my mind right now -- get yourself together now also does sometimes) is just mind blowingly successful.

yeah, it doesn't put meat on the table. but mega riches has its risks too......

I'd love to see her take a job with some talented director or something, or a try being one of the hosts on on a start up reality show etc , even if it wasn't necessarily to have her own voice or songs in what she was working on rather than an endless tour of small clubs and catch them when she can performance opportunities.

She's 22 and has all sorts of ways she can grow and I think brass rings that will open to continued artistic exploration and motivation (and eventual big buck$ ) are more likely outside of a grind-it-out solo approach.

The game works like this, if you really sincere about wanting to make a go of it in the music industry everybody starts out small working in small clubs bars and venues. Even the local county fair gigs. That's what you call paying your dues the Beatles started out that way little clubs and then they got recognized. I think that pretty much summarizes in a business you start off small and any start growing little by little. That's where you really learn the hard knocks of how things work in your industry. If Haley were to be extremely successful in her album and rise to the top, in a short amount of time she wouldn't be able to learn the small lessons along the way that all the hard knocks in struggling would provide her.IMO

What does "a cautionary tale" mean?

It's a bit of hyperbole on Grady's part. (Interestingly, most cautionary tales also have an element of hyperbole too .

And so you see where this is going. Interscope gave Haley one chance to make a hit with a single that was never destined to become anything but a video. And to try to introduce her with limited exposure and promotion but expecting a substantial amount of returnable income.Such delusional thinking.

That's what amazes me as well as baffles me. This is what they do for a living. How could they be that far off base? Really makes no sense.

I'm guessing Interscope saw the spectacular performances Haley did on AI and was betting on more of the same. It didn't happen. Her big shot at introducing Free to a large AI audience didn't work out well. Her album was good but not good enough to generate enough buzz to get high sales numbers. She didn't develop a touring act good enough to attract large numbers of new fans. Maybe she will become more marketable but Interscope doesn't want to keep investing based on the results of the past year. It's a business decision. They need artists that will pay there bills. It's now up to Haley to find a new investor or do it on her own.

Going forward, think of number 5 Kellie Picker who managed to become successful. Cute girl. Great personality. Average voice. She was in town recently as the only act at a venue with 1000+ seats and tickets sold for $30 to $70. Haley is talented enough to do as well or better. Depends on how hard she works at it.

If I remember right, what we saw on idol may have been a filmed "dress rehearsal" that Haley didn't realize would be broadcast?

There was something funky going on.. ... there were techinical limitations because of the elaborate set. Perhaps there were time issues.. perhaps it was because Lana didn't want to perform live or wasn't capabable of it so they had both do the same.

A live performance would have been far better and certainly IF Haley didn't realize that she was being filmed for the final shot, she might have held back--


on your going forward.. yes Kelli Pickler has been impressive - And that is a question I guess for Haley herself.... is the self promotion something she has been thriving on or does it distract from her love of music (or neither) ? I want her to make oodles of money (or at least enough oodles to know that she can comfortably pay for her future kids and future grand-childrens's private college bills etc) and for her music to reach a much broader audience but, I could care less if she became a glamour star gracing the front covers of magazines frequently etc. . I'd love to see her get the notoriety Norah Jones did .... but almost would prefer she didn't have millions of teenage girls following her every-move (yeah, maybe that's where the money is... )

But.. it is HER dream that matters and she needs to chase her dream.

I thought able Galdwell when I commented recently that I was glad Haley was getting out there and performing in clubs and other venues. In his book Outliers Gladwell contends that it takes about 10,000 hours to become a master at what you do. One example he discusses in the book is that of the Beatles working in Hamburg. They played daily for hours at seedy strip clubs and when they returned to England, they were good at what they did.

I would love to see Haley play small clubs for a while (and sprinkle in other venues) and hone her performance skills. One problem with AI is that it short circuits the climb to stardom but in most cases it does not, and can not substitute for putting in the work.

I recall that as well. But they have some involvement. Before"Free" was released an Interscope employee was in charge of her travel arrangements.

I got to admit this, that the sting of Disappointment the Way, Haley was handled by Interscope still plagues me. The emotions are starting to subside just a little but (ITstill cuts like a knife but it feels so right )

I know she will do fine in her career and I don't think her singing is anywhere near as being finished. I could not picture her at 22 wanting to have babies and be a stay-at-home mom not at this age.Singing was what she is digging on.The only thing that really concerns me and it's probably selfish on my part, is that she keeps us updated on her situation and doesn't abandon us. Her fans are the ones that love and support her I'm beginning to see a little bit the involvement of Interscope. I think they were just a vessel that contains recording equipment some writers and a few other things. Maybe the real burden shouldn't be put online Interscope but her management company. Whatever you know in life sometimes the first job you get is not last job you'll ever have. In my career in construction I went to countless construction companies learning little bits at a time until when I decided to start my own business I had a portion of experience that I had learned from previous employers and was able to compile a pretty good knowledge of how things work. So Haley will learn from this to. Her credibility as an upcoming young artist still holds a lot of water in my opinion, as far as I'm concerned I don't see any holes in the jug. AM I being redundant? lol
