This sounds like a friend-of-a-friend encounter rather than professionals who are working together. It seems Dan Hill is currently or was recently part of a death metal band called Executive BigFoot:

-When we play live its going to be loud and fast and we might have more speakers than we need. Enjoy it. We do.

-We think satan is a pussy and a faggot, though we know he will have his little hour on his little fake throne. "Is this the man who deceived all the nations?"(Isaiah 14)

-We love our grandparents and our families. We like to show our grandmas (who were adults during WWII) how we play extreme death grindcore music and they like it and think its cool. They say its just like boys to try to build fast race cars or jet planes. We like it that way.

What I can't figure out is what a California boy would be doing in Chicago. And how he would have enough friends there to throw a surprise party.

His old, out-of-date site says:

Dan Hill began playing drums at 7 years old. He started playing professionally at age 14 doing several cover gigs and casuals around the Inland Empire, and Orange County. At the same time, he formed Riverside local legend Spiderworks...After Spiderworks, Dan formed a rock fusion group called FriedWood. Despite the band's rather sill name, they recorded a CD and toured with the bands Faith No More and Iron Butterfly...After meeting legendary percussionist Jerry Steinholtz, Dan decided to enroll at LA Music Academy in March of 2000. Steinholtz was a true mentor and urged him to study drums and percussion as a dual major...Dan graduated at the top of his class, having been chosen to play drums in the studio drumming class taught by J.R. Robinson and fronting two jazz bands and two latin bands taught by Jerry Steinholtz and Tony Inzalaco. After graduating, Dan played with L.A. Punk band FEAR, recorded two CDs for Riverside alternative country band Bucksworth and formed his own Jazz group Like Minds.

I don't know, with his background as a Studio musician and Jazz drummer, its not out of the realm of possibility he is laying down tracks on some of her songs. As far as the Chicago connection, have no idea.
