He doesn't want to remembered as only a pop artist....there's a difference..
(No surprise their Idols were McCartney and Lennon. The Ulvaeus and Andersson writing team is one of the more prolific partnerships in songwriting which not only includes their ABBA hits, but also lauded in their musical theater and stage credits)
I know ABBA will always be met with this kind of attitude, that they are not relevant to some people's mind, in music, and it's easy to pic on the corny costumes and pop lyrics...look at many artists at that time dressed similarly. Just because ABBA isn't Amercan/British they are an easy or covenient target for derision, partly due to some that believe music, especially rock music, is an American institution, when in truth, many of the great Rock groups are from Europe... The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Pink Floyd etc....what is indesputable is ABBA were huge, up there with Elvis and the Beatles, worldwide...
The point I'm making is Haley should still incorporate pop elements, and not dismiss them outright...not to put ABBA up for people to be derisive about. What Bjorn said about the window of opportunity to be in touch with the music of youth is pertinent to this discussion. ... ABBA seem an easy target for people to make fun of while ignoring their 10 year world wide accomplishments...

RE: Next album will be blusier
I enjoy ABBA's music. Pointing out Bjorn wants the group to be remembered for more than their pop hits is not being derisive of their past. It speaks to what musicians feel is important.
I don't think Haley -- coming out of Idol -- would do herself any favors by hopping on the pop train. She should continue to focus on making music she likes and thinks represents her as an artist.
I used to want her to be as big as Britney Spears in her past or Bieber today, but this slideshow of Bieber's recent concert in San Antonio put things in perspective for me:

So many of the concertgoers were very young. Bieber is riding that wave now but their musical tastes will change.
I'd prefer Haley to cater to an older crowd, like those who are following Allen Stone. If you can capture their attention -- and they respect you as a musician -- they will continue to support you as you continue to evolve.

I agree, I don't think it's in Haley's DNA to be that kind of 'pop' any way. I'm not advocating her to go fully that route, just that it has it's place and significance and with her already vaied musical mix of a background, pop shouldn't be discounted from the mix

I also agree that the tastes of the young change as they mature, but there will always be 16 yr olds supporting the light and easily consumable with their disposable income.
(I'm reminded of the famous, but sketchy line from Matthew McConaughey's character's quote in the movie, Dazed and Confused)
"That's what I love about these high school girls, I get older but they stay the same age"
I just want to point out that not all 'pop' should be dismissed as any less valid than Rock, Jazz or Soul. The Beatles' first iteration was all pop songs about holding hands, being with you, me or him... and the basis from which Haley's favorite Band launched a legendary career.
Actually, Bjorn has always been annoyed at not being as successful in the US markets as they were everywhere else in the world. It wasn't as much about people's perception of them, necessarily, or the genre.
Back then, the US mgmt believed that the way to a number one record was touring, touring and more touring. ABBA had already toured a ton in Europe, they were individually, successful artists in their own right before joining to be ABBA. TPTB in the US would not invest in them without an extensive tour of the US. By that time ABBA, having toured many times in Europe, Asia and even Australia were already tired of touring, mainly because it took them away from the studio and doing what they LOVED, and that was making music.
