Shela pointed out to me that Haley had been at the Ole songwriting camp recently and then just a few days later we get the news she was in the studio recording a song that was likely written there.

That is certainly good news but it doesn't mean she's taken the bull by the horns. So my advice remains, "Keep Writing."

I feel like I'm learning a little about the music business as I follow Haley.

When I talked with her father a couple weeks ago, he indicated to me that it was her publishing company Ole, that was responsible for getting her songs played in all the stores,and on TV etc. She has to be getting paid for this. And he said "She was doing ok" in the money department, at least for now. Without that publishing deal, things may have turned out a lot different.

And Haley is written up as a "singer, song writer" which broadens her appeal. I want her album to be successful, but she could end up with a hit song on some movie or something which could then cause her album sales to sky rocket. like Adele!! (Am i right??)

Ole and Haley definitely seem like a good fit.

Ole, Haley and Listen Up! are a good fit. When Haley first worked with Mozella, I was surprised at how may of M's songs were being used on TV shows and in stores. Right off the bat, I think Haley has experienced that level of success or better.

It just seems that everyone who meets her, likes her. She makes an impression and they remember her! Heart

Can't hurt that she's talented, beautiful and adorkable too!!

If we could guarantee that everyone who heard it would buy it, but looking at how good LU is and how many followers she has yet she can't even sell 100,000.... Tongue

I guess the digital Pandora's box is open, if it's already out there I guess it will eventually be 'making the rounds' just like the other leaked songs still do (which BTW Haley made NO money from)....but how can Haley be successful if so many of her fans/followers don't even buy her album.... I would be so frustrated if I were her

If everytime she works hard to make the best song she can and she finds out that its out there for everyone to download for free and she gets only a fraction of what she should?

I guess this is the times we live in and I have no answer.... I just feel bad that no matter how genuine her efforts are to brighten our lives with her songs, this is just another reason she can't sell, and I will continue to have to listen to her haters point to her sales as proof that they are right about her... Sad

Yes, but remember, she's from Chicago (or nearby), and Chicago has a different "brand" of blues.

Also, yes, Haley's smile is dazzling and infectious, which is why, when we see a shot of her not smiling, we immediately notice.

You know, Tusk, I have been quite concerned about this very thing since I began following Haley's journey. Pre-internet days, it was easy enough to "bootleg" an album, but now I honestly don't see how a recording artist stands a chance. Obviously, those established have the mechanisms in place to protect their concerns, but for new and upcoming people, it's got to be hugely challenging.

Sort of gives new -- or different -- meaning to part of the chorus of the song Feeling Good: "It's a new dawn, it's a new day"....

The question is, will they be "feeling good" at the end of it?

I don't want my last post to be 'judgemental' but I can't overlook the facts.

By spreading her songs for free, even before they can be purchased, what incentive is there to go out and actually purchase something you already have?

Is this basically akin to 'killing the goose that lays the golden egg'?

Instead of nurturing and rewarding the goose so it can continue producing, we snatch the egg as soon as it's laid, suffocate it, starve it (not getting money, credit or sales it should), all the while telling it how much we love it, ... how much longer will that goose be making that egg?

Like I said, I have no answer, other than to say that hopefully, her people learn and try to take more care in securing her material, but I have my doubts in the twitter/digital/technology age.
