Every time I look back at old #Idol performances for a story, I get sidetracked and watch every Haley Reinhart video I can....#StillBitter
I am watching this season, and there is no doubt these five girls can all sing, especially Candace. But, to me, rarely do you see much connection or emotion with the songs. None of them can really perform or move, except maybe Janelle who at least looks like she is having a good time. Although, she will probably be gone tonight.
I predict Candace wins over Kree in the final.
I hope that your prediction is correct, although Candice may be better off not winning -- I fear what kind of crap that she might have to put on her first album.
As for not moving, Amber did that with both of her songs last week (the second more than the first) and ended up in the bottom two. And remember that disaster of Angie's ("Shop Around") a few weeks back? Kree is probably still contending with a pinched nerve and a broken toe (Candice) is generally not "all better" in 17 days. Between negative feedback and physical pain, I can understand why these young women are reluctant to move around.

RE: American Idol 2013
Candice's voice is definitely as good as Haley's and Melinda Dolittle's. Over the years I have found that I am emotionally more connected to female singers because they sing from the place where I live, if you get my drift...
Last night Amber's diva cover was my fav because I have been a Streisand geek since I was 16. MAE. the Natalie Cole comparison was spot on. Amber does need a little more training but her voice has so many sweet spots I cannot ignore her potential.
Although Carrie and Kelly have great voices I do not relate to them musically but think they are fun personalities.
Anyway my top three for this season are Candice, Kree and Amber in that order. I have never picked a winner yet so if Candice wins I could break my streak.
Oh, I forgot to mention Allison Iraheta who should be topping the girl rocker charts. The grit in her voice is right up there in Janis Joplin territory...

My dear Ms. Cherelann, Candice's voice is definitely on the same par as Haley's or Melinda's. Their voices are different, but, each in their own way, are so very distinctive, and wonderful! They're equally fabulous, and I'm happy that you don't feel the need to make one better than the other, since, in their own way, they are all equally extraordinary.
And then there's Ms. Amber because this young woman's got beau coup talent and I don't really even know what might happen for her, if she can tap into and truly realize that potential of hers. Let's just say she's got an extraordinary vocal gift, and let's hope that she'll be given the opportunity to truly let it develop.
The Natalie Cole comparison wasn't mine -- it was someone (NameThatTune from TVLine), but I'm happy that you see it as well.
For those who may may not remember Natalie's rendition with her dad (years after he had died):

I was a big Melinda fan. But,honestly nobody may ever get to me like Haley did.It was just everything-the versatility and the "authenticity"for lack of a better word that she could bring to any style or genre ,the different things she could do with her voice and how natural it all felt.Plus the overall package.
Having said that-I'm really enjoying Candice this year. She's been just about flawless technically from the beginning but each week she seems to be getting to something more distinctive and it makes to make me hear more and more of her and its not often that happens.

RE: American Idol 2013
Thanks MAE for posting the duet of Natalie Cole with her Dad. The pairing of those two great voices is definitely “Unforgettable”. Haley and Natalie Cole are my two favorite singers because of the way they style their jazz. I also enjoy Natalie Cole’s early sound where she started out as an R&B soul artist which is another direction Haley likes to go at times.
I started watching AI this season the last several weeks so I haven’t seen it from the beginning. However this year’s top 5 may be the best ever. To me Candice is consistently at a top level each week I have seen her. Mariah Carey likes Candice a lot and may be her favorite. I wasn’t too sure about Amber being as good as Candice until “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life”. That performance was the best one for me and was my realization just how good Amber is.
I would like to see both Amber and Candice display more of their jazzy sides. However I would be very happy if Kree or Angie won. I was sorry to see Janelle leave, but of all the genres to have open arms for future stars, it’s Country with the likes of Kellie Pickler and Bucky Covington.

RE: American Idol 2013
You know, I love Candice. I think she's definitely just as great of a singer as Haley technically.
But I simply love Haley more. And I'll say this, Haley's voice is more unique than Candice's.
I'd love to hear a jazz duet between the two. The way they both sing, they do many of the same things well. Particularly harmonizing and vocal runs. (like my favorite duet of all time..)

As for Nicki and Mariah, honestly..I really think it's that woman thing. Like, Mariah's a diva..Nicki respects that. But it was said from the beginning that Mariah didn't want Nicki on idol because she didn't want a woman on there with her. (Also, remember when some of us mentioned that JLo might have been insecure about Haley, and some laughed at the idea. Well...JLo has very few backup female dancers for that reason. She is insecure. )
It's simply something that has happened to Nicki throughout her career. (Lil Kim being the most prominent example.) And Nicki is very much into supporting other women.
Nicki's personality is brash..and I'm sure it could be annoying. But I've always felt..when it came to the feud..Mariah really did come off as worse. Just last night, Mariah wouldn't let Nicki talk and defended "herself" when Nicki said Keith didn't know what he's talking about because he doesn't wear heals.
Not to mention when they were asked to compliment each other. Nicki spoke genuinely and sweetly about how she was always a huge Mariah fan and Mariah's compliment was that she appreciated what Nicki said about her.
