RE: Pentatonix History of Music
Thanks, Tom 22, that's pretty amazing. No, no Bach -- in fact the first 9 and a half centuries are pretty much left out. I heard a Gregorian chant (who knows who "wrote" it), Pachelbel Cannon in D [which may or may not have been in the key of D], and Beethoven, and then there's a fast forward to the 20th century.
But these kids are good! The arrangement was terrific --I love the segues they used once they got to the 20th century, and their voices blend really, really well. Great fun! Thanks for sharing.

Yay ! that is great news.
I could see them doing it every other year and I'd be happy with that. The expenses/budget must be pretty big for a lifetime show and I can see that as good as it is, the audience might be a little more limited .. still big but probably never a Neilsen leader. To many great harmonics for the average ear to abosorb ?
The Pentatonix success could be inspiring them though. The group is tenaciously working their talent on the web and attracting a real following. The linked video has 8 million views as does "We are Young" and most of their covers have multi million views.

RE: Pentatonix History of Music
I'm grateful to Tom22 for bringing this group to my attention. It is/they are astonishing!
Say Something - Given the cello (although it's not really an accompaniment), it isn't truly acappella, but it's still O.M.G.
And I apologize for not being able to make this an easy video that you can just "click the arrow." I've struck out on the options offered above (TV with antenna icon while in "reply" mode). I suspect the group wants to monitor views.

I never really paid attention to Pentatonix, but I started listening to these videos today, researched their beginnings and such, and am so impressed with this group. Acapella too! Great harmonies, all have such good voices! One of their videos on you tube is up to 52 million views!
The power of a little singing show on TV and the web!! Never know where it can take you.
Thank you Tom and John for turning me on.

Babbs, glad to see you on the Pentatonix train. The group is extraordinarily good!
And, john, thanks for providing the video link to Say Something, as well as the others that you added. As I've said before, I am dumbfounded/gob-smacked by how good they are. Their arrangements are really creative and the singing is amazing. The guy who sings bass has an "unhumanly" deep voice. The group is just astonishing. I'm really glad to see a cappella singing garnering renewed interest.
