The Chicago Area & The Reinhart's Wheeling are all a BUZZ about the Chicago Black Hawks. Friendship Park (Where Haley turned on the Village Christmas Lights the night after the Mag Mile Lights Festival (with Casey) Has a sign in the same fountain on the same stand that held the "Vote Haley" sign two years ago:

and across the street on the large video board at the Grocery Store where Angie Reinhart works, had a repeating Go Black Hawks sign flashing. Harry wore a Chicago Black Hawks cap when he played with Traffic Jam at the Classic Car Show a couple weeks ago.

That was the best ending they could've ever had!! I was hugging/holding my puppy during the last :58 seconds and when the buzzer went off he growled at me (and tried to bite my hand) for making him dance when they won!

I only wish they could have finished it off in Chicago with all the screaming hometown fans but this was still great!

That's because they added to it each year, so they then had to start removing 'bands' once the current one gets full, From Wiki:

Unlike the trophies awarded by the other three major professional sports leagues of North America, a new Stanley Cup is not made each year; winners keep it until a new champion is crowned. It is unusual among trophies, in that it has the names of all of the winning players, coaches, management, and club staff engraved on its chalice. Initially, a new band added each year caused the trophy to grow in size, earning the nickname "Stovepipe Cup". In 1958 the modern one-piece Cup was designed with a five-band barrel which could contain 13 winning teams per band. To prevent the Stanley Cup from growing, when the bottom band is full, the oldest band is removed and preserved in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and a new blank band added to the bottom

Thanks, Tusk. The bands -- the addition or deletion thereof -- is an interesting idea. I hadn't realized that in other sports, a new trophy is given per sport each year, although I can see a good many rationales for doing that. I like the tradition of the Stanley Cup, but as I stated earlier today, that thing is humongous!

Anyway, congratulations Chicago, the Black Hawks team and especially the team's fans!

Another of the cool traditions of the cup is that every member of the team gets to 'be responsible' for it for a time...

The Stanley Cup championship team is allotted 100 days during off-season to pass around the Cup including the team's parade, days with sponsors and a day or so with each player and member of the team's staff. It is always accompanied by at least one representative from the Hockey Hall of Fame. Although many players have unofficially spent a day in personal possession of the Cup, in 1994 the New York Rangers started a tradition wherein each member of the Cup-winning team is allowed to retain the Cup for a day. Victors of the Cup have used it to baptize their children. Two players (the New York Islanders' Clark Gillies and the Anaheim Ducks' Sean O'Donnell) even allowed their dogs to eat out of the Cup

We lost power in our house (in north suburb of Chicago)at 620pm after a quick rain storm blow over so none here watched the game, but my husband was listening on the radio. My daughter ended up partying in the streets with all the crazy fans in Edison Park. And then went to Harry Cary's in Rosemont where all the players and their families went after their plane landed in Chicago at something like 3am. She said it was nuts, but she had the best time. She has blurry pictures of people holding up the Stanley Cup at Harry Cary's. Got home at 5:30am.
