RE: Haley and Casey - CityWalkLA - August 10th
(08-11-2013, 05:54 PM)My Alter Ego Wrote: Yanni, thanks for providing this version of the Flintstones theme. So twice today, I've heard this song ala jazz hot, baby.
.................. I get the feeling she and Casey didn't do any rehearsal on this. Rather, Casey, being that spontaneous guy we know him to be, assumed that Haley could just whip out "trading fours/twos" whatever, with him, and, perhaps, harmonizing along with his scatting, when, in fact, she wasn't quite sure what was he was going to be doing (because, like duh, when is Casey ever predictable?).
The scat solo she did do was wonderful, and I love some of the minor notes she hit in her lower register! ................
..........
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable piece, and Casey better get this recorded in ways other than Youtube soon!
Special thanks from me too Yanni .. and the recording was pretty darn good for my ear... I'm not sure exactly why some appeal to me more and others appeal to other people more... I wouldn't be entirely surprised if it might have to do with ranges of hearing loss etc (I may be getting there.. oh no!).
MAE....
I also agree with you that she did a very good solo/scat. My take was that she took the "Trombone" role... not uncommon to toss the trombone a few less bars and sort of expect them to keep the energy enough alive while giving the audience a bit of a break from the antic tendancies of the sax and trumpet... I'll call Casey the Trumpet.. we had a real sax and keyboard (I really really liked parts of the keys solo too and he quit before he started wandering which was also perfect) Haley was awesome even if she chose to stick to 16 bars of awesomeness instead of tainting it with average parts) )
I agree with you on the sort of "blindsided thing". Haley did well to keep her mouth shut in other parts when she didn't have a strong clue where it was going. I listened to two other songs Haley did with Casey... (tell me something good, and Islands in the Sun) which were kind of poor . Those were sort of a failure which is so rare for these two. I think both songs could be something they could do great together on....what couldn't they do great... but it will take a few more times through... maybe some sharing of ideas between them in separate live covers etc.(
We got a couple amazing performances so far: Flintstones , Cake and Eat it too (i'm really loving that solo I compared to Carlos Santana), and Wore Out My Soul ....

RE: Haley and Casey - CityWalkLA - August 10th
Thanks to all who took the time and effort to record and post videos for those of us less fortunate not to be in LA. It is greatly appreciated.
