My Cake

I just wanted to make a little declaration that I'm sure with thrill everyone to no end. I've decided that My Cake as moved up the list and has ousted Follow My Heart as my favorite Haley penned song. I liked My Cake the first time I heard it, and even though Haley has changed it up every time she has performed it (jazzy at City Walk, poppy at the Cosmo and rockin' at BGD) the song itself is strong enough to hold its own in any style. What really made me love the song more than ever was watching it repeatedly on Tusk's video. The great band's sound coming through so clearly gives the song a cool, funky vibe that makes it irresistible.

I am so eager to hear more of Haley's new material. She is definitely showing growth as a song writer as well as gaining more and more confidence as a performer.

PS: As a side-note, can I say again how much I adore Haley's band introduction at the end of the song? This was one of the best she has ever done and felt as cool and natural as any veteran performer. I love all her "love ya, mans" and "you're the bests," although it is funny when she suddenly gets an English accent when she starts introducing her family. LOL.

I love the song as well.As much as I might like all facets of her musical personality I'm probably partial to the jazz/funk side of things and this song fits her like a glove.

And I definitely agree on her band introductions-including the faux British accent.It looked like she could have been on tour for the past couple of months-and how many times has she actually been able to do this since she left Idol-you could probably count it on one hand.

A couple of other things I love in the My Cake video:

In the introduction when Haley says "It's called...My Cake...(Hee hee)" That little "hee hee" melts my heart into a puddle of swan moosh!

I really love that part going into the instrumental solo parts and she goes "huh, huh, huh" like a mini James Brown. That is so funky and spontaneous that I get a big grin every time I hear it.

Actually, every time I watch the video I find some new little nuance to love. This is one of those performances where I put it on and absolutely groove to the moment while my mind is tickled with what I know is coming up. In this swan's mind it is pure musical heaven! *sighhhhhh*

I LOVE "My Cake"! To be quite frank, its my favorite Haley song right now! I am sitting at work and its running through my head. I cannot get it out, but I don't want to. :-) I love that part near the end where she belts out
