Last night I had the idea to hook up my laptop, via HDMI cable to my flatscreen to enjoy

Haley Comes Alive!
...and I have to say, the resolution of these videos stand up very well, and the stereo audio is, obviously, significantly better through my sound system, there is more bass than I'd heard through my laptop or earphones, which lends to a richer sound.

Highly recommended to get the best viewing experience of the concert

They managed to not talk on this audio..

I played around with Peter Spero's audio to enhance it a bit, it was pretty quiet. Also, the best camera work of the night from THF. Love the close ups.

Spero thought we had removed the talking from his audio, he misunderstood that I just said I used short clips from his audio to salvage a couple of THF's audio's.

I can't use his audio for Better or Cake for that reason, a couple are talking/yelling over it and it's too noticeable .

You can hear them a bit at the beginning of this video.

Spero said he'll be sending his 'from the stage' vid to me soon, so I hope it's something useable. Most likely it's a static shot from a camera he set up on stage, who knows something of interest may be on it

I agree -- it is good!

A few specific points/questions:

1.) Haley's voice is so beautiful and comes through so clearly during the verses, but when the full band kicks in (during the chorus, I think), she's almost swallowed. Am I the only one experiencing that?

2.) Did Patti tip her hat to Harry as he began his solo?

3.) Harry's solo is wunderbar!

Hearing this again reminds me of when she sang it on AI and the big "clearance" issue. Which makes me wonder if, once cleared, the performer gets to perform it ad infinitum, or if the clearance issues on shows such as AI are about insuring the song writers (it's hard for me to say that rather than composers) get residuals, given that said shows make money, and/or insuring that not every Curtis, Jacob, or Lazaro get to render grave musical injustice?

Addendum to the "clearance issue": I did a little searching myself. While I don't have answers to my specific questions above, Wikipedia offers some info about music licensing:

I'm actually pretty sure Led Zeppelin has eased up on their restrictions. (literally a few months after Haley performed it.) Which was why it wasn't a big deal when Elise sang it.

But I also think that the clearance is more of a "show" issue. Perhaps it would be more of an issue if Haley was more well known (although kelly clarkson and Taylor swift do random covers during their concerts all the time. And Kelly even lets fans request them.) but during a concert, I don't think it's a problem.

I think she sounds fine when the band comes in. I'm pretty sure the effect of a loud band was intended. But I will say, from these videos, it sure seemed like she was struggling with her head voice/upper register, this concert. I wonder if she was sick/had allergies or something of the sort.

If I recall correctly, Lisa was wondering if Haley sounded different after the party.

All of the times I've met/talked to Haley, her talking voice has had different levels of 'rasp' to it, so I don't know if I could say she sounded 'different' or affected by allergies or what not. The only time I noticed a strain was the third night in Vegas because of the smoking, even we who saw her had affected throats.

I will point out that if she was sick or her health was not great, the likelihood she would have stuck out at a party she was not obligated to stay for 3 hours AFTER riding on the back of a car in a parade, would not be good.

Of course I've known Haley to go out of her way, if she's able, to make a fan happy, so there is a chance she hung out with us, even though she was not feeling great.

I think the evidence pointed to that she wasn't sick for the show.

I think that's just what people who have that natural rasp to their voice have to contend with, daily. I remember in an Emma Stone interview, she talked about dealing with her vocal rasp all the time, sometimes losing her voice if she didn't rest it before performing.

That's possible too Tusk. I've just only seen Haley struggle with it once. (When she went overseas.) Usually her upper register is her money.

Sometimes just being outside can cause that too. It's also possible, because she was singing so many songs in the environment she was singing in, that she took it easy on her vocal chords. (A lot of singers do this. But once again, I've just never seen Haley do it.) Or that she thought her lighter upper register wouldn't be heard as well.

Also, good have just been a creative choice on Haley's part to sing at a lower pitch than she normally does. Maybe just being with Midnight brought that on.

edit: I hadn't mentioned it yet, but i love the dress. Feminine hippy goddess.

I think CityWalk and BGDays I got a huge young, non drugged out ( ) Stevie Nicks vibe to her wardrobe

I thought maybe she went a little lower because the BGDays set was by far her most rocking since Lollapalloza. I think she likes to go high and airy for her Jazz, and maybe more guttural, lower for her rock....

you can see that comparing her CityWalk "My Cake" to the BGDays "My Cake" (although Harry's blues influenced guitar probably had as much to do with it as Haley's decision to go more rock)

"My Cake" is probably a bad comparison song to use, because it's definitely a more bluesy/rock direction than she had with songs from "Listen Up!", although the CityWalk version with that phenomenal scat at the end....
