RE: Haley in NYC - March 8, 2013

Well, Babbsie, that's what pros can do. Given that Haley grew up with it, she's not so surprising. But I don't think Keith did, so therein lies the surprise. However, Haley, obviously, has enormous confidence in his ability to truly back her up and he doesn't seem to disappoint. She did look and sound wonderful.
But did anyone else notice those lovely little "filler" riffs that Keith did on "Keep Comin' Back"? That kid -- oops -- young man is a real find! Courtney Leonard, thank you for connecting Haley and Keith. That's a reason why I love Keith and Haley especially on their performances of NTYH....It's that song that they both groove so well to
I wish someone had a recording of their performance of BATJ at that private party when Haley gave Keith a piano solo during that song:
Quote:..."I love to put him on the spot"...

Tusk, I know... You and I kind of "go off into some zone" about Keith. (And frankly, my friend -- whom I've never met -- I think you're much more into jazz than you know).
To this day, I still feel a bit of guilt about the hows and whys Neara was "swiped out of the picture" (because that's kind of how it feels), but, in general, Keith is so good and he is soo good with Haley, that it's hard not to be -- well, I'm now completely in the "Keith" mode.
My dream jazz trio (and small jazz combos are where I live, when in "jazz mode") would be Haley, Keith, and Casey, with Casey, probably mostly on bass (with back up vocal parts, be they harmony or "echo or response"), but because Casey is, instrumentally so versatile, let's not limit him.

I chose that first one because you can clearly hear the keyboards (although Haley's vocals are a bit further away)
Keith really has a sound about him and some of his musical choices reminds me of the 70's R&B/Jazz style, Stevie Wonder/Earth Wind and Fire feel to it. A 'throwback'
Not really sure if that's the right way to articulate it, but yeah, I really enjoy these two together

Tusk, that's a huge connection -- and one that makes a lot of sense. Because of the "pop" popularity of Stevie at one point, it's sometimes hard to remember that he was really an extraordinary musician when he wasn't (and, often, when he was) making "top 20" hits.
And Earth Wind and Fire had some remarkable stuff as well. Thanks, also, for pointing out that connection. Both influences might have come from what his dad listened to, but maybe it was his own preference.
Whatever/wherever his influences came, I'm just grateful, because Keith is just so good! His effervescence is just contagious and his musicianship has me in awe!

So glad Haley wasn't ever like this with us

He's at the House of Blues in Orlando, so I think this is the pop star in question:
