Thanksgiving 2013

"Looks like a cold, cold" Thanksgiving. (Yes, I'm lifting a line -- or most of it -- from a song.) I'm glad that Haley's home and the various difficulties/damage that this winter (already???) storm is leaving won't affect her -- at this point, anyway.

For the rest of you who may be traveling for Thanksgiving, I hope your journeys are safe, warm, and not too harried.

Since for once it will just be me & my wife for Thanksgiving we are trying to contact the Red Cross to see if we can help in a food kitchen or something down in the tornado devastated town of Washington, Illinois to help prepare a feast for the people that were left homeless when their house was destroyed a week ago.

I went downtown tonight to Daley Plaza to watch the tree lighting! I've always watched it on tv but this was the first time seeing it upclose. A great start to the Thanksgiving and Christmas season!!

Thank you for your willingness to help the families of Washington! We will be working in the field tomorrow, Nov. 28. If you are still interested in this date, please confirm by responding to this email. You mentioned Cheri as a cook and server, but we will not be having a dinner here. If Cheri would like to come along but not work in the field, she could help in the office for the day. Also, Cheri needs to complete the volunteer application.

When you confirm, I will add you to the calendar and send you details on location and times. Look forward to hearing from you!

^^Do you know what "working in the field" means in this case? Not that it matters ... it's so good of you and your wife to lend a hand. I'm sure it will be appreciated.

P.S. Earlier this morning, when replying to an email from a friend, I was intending to write "Hmmm" but an "i" found it's way in before the first "m." Funny what muscle memory can do.

I hope you and your wife have a terrific Thanksgiving, albeit a somewhat different one for you.
