New review of "Listen Up!"
From "the record blog" run by someone from Malaysia.
Quote:It is super rare to see a former reality star, especially from the United States, released a pretty good album like this one. Listen Up! is Haley Reinhart's debut album and I am in love with the whole production. The dusty R&B vibe that filled this record fits her like a glove.
Listen Up! is definitely an ear-grabber! Reinhart's pinup charm and her distinctive twist to the neo-soul genre puts her ahead of any other American Idol alumnus. Songs like 'Oh My!', 'Free', 'Liar', 'Undone', 'Keep Coming Back', and 'Now That You're Here' are some of my favorites from this record. The album may be over-produced in certain parts but the retro sonic is one pure delight. Honestly, the first track 'Oh My!' already got me dreaming about blasting horns in some jazz night club.
So, yeah, I'd love to see more American artists to take this kind of risk and produce something worthy of continuous loops in the stereo box. Sure mainstream pop music brings a lot of money but originality oughta give you lots of critical acclaims. Listen Up! is indeed a smart move for Reinhart.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
