Check out the how to create text effects thread. Basically a smiley is just an image. So you can go to places like http://planetsmilies.net/, view a smiley then copy the URL location and paste it here as an image.

In case you don't know, the easiest way to copy the URL (web address) is to hover your cursor over an image and right click your mouse to call up the menu of options, then select, "Copy Image Location" (or some similarly worded option).
You would then use the menu again to select "paste" to post the URL in your post. Then bracket it with the image command: [img]URL[/img]
