Ah yes, I'm sure they were and they didn't have a lot of options for instruments. The neanderthal asked me to put him up to celebrate the beginning of April
I see! Of course, it was the ice age, things were really cool, they knew their stuff, and I bet their music, too, probably some swing from the belly, hand trumpets blaring, perfectly suitable for April 1!
But back to Haley! Coolness is in sunglasses, in Casey's bass and in her killer vocal.

Yes it is James Taylor. I'm a big fan. I've heard Casey do this before on video--he forgot some of the lyrics then and he did last night. But, I don't care--I loved every sec of the cover. And Haley's trumpet WOW!
Just a little tidbit about SteamRoller Blues. JT moved to Greenwich Village when he was 18 to make music. He noticed there were a lot of young white guys from privileged backgrounds singing the blues. He thought it kind of funny. So, since he was a white kid from a privileged background himself--he wrote Steamroller as kind of a joke song. Though, it is weird since he had spent time in a hospital for depression. So, he must have knew the blues.
Anyway--this is one of my fave versions of the song from James Taylor 1979 concert. Much different than the acoustic version
I saw this tour during college BTW--and it was amazing. What a line up of musicians here
PS I want to thank Rachel and everyone who is posting videos and recapping the show. I FLOVE the new song. The changes are so good. They are so terrific together. (and apart) I want to write a lot more but got to take care of some stuff

Haley sure knows how to make up for the lull periods. And thanks so much Jair, Rachel, Stephanie, yanni and anybody else I may have left out for bringing this awesome performance to us who couldn’t be there. Thanks Miguel, Tusk and Babbs for the postings. Again I am indebted to your devotion and desire to share your Haley and Casey experiences.
I agree with swan, Haley’s voice is in fine form. Haley and Casey are the perfect musical match. “You Were There” is incredibly beautiful. Haley’s voice just soars at the chorus and Haley and Casey’s harmonies are amazing, their voices meld as one. Haley and Casey’s remarkable duets “You Were There”, “Sail”, and “My Cake”, completely different song vibes, confirm that they can sing anything. Not to mention the superb hand trumpet. Haley doesn’t need a band; she can be her own band. Absolutely amazing for any artist but extraordinary for such young artists. Casey sure can find excellent musicians.
“Cry Me A River” is another great jazz standard that I love sung by my favorite jazz singers. Haley adds her own lovely poignant interpretation and now Haley has added this classic to my listening pleasure.
I am looking forward to midnightblues' videos.

So far only listened to "Sail & the new one. Haven't gotten to the others yet cause I've l can't stop listening to "You Were There". If this is what comes out of Haley & Casey writing together, then I hope they do it more, cause I'm pretty blown away by it.
Also, thanks Yanni, Rachel & Midnight for shooting these & sharing them w/ all of us. It's much appreciated

kaypea, ex-trumpet player here: I agree with you regarding the sound, and, for the record, she is singing through her hand not blowing, as one would on a trumpet, so I suggest that we need to come up with a more appropriate label. (As an ex-trumpeter, blowing through her hand conjures up all manner of "ewww'" to me. It's better "not to go there" -- trust me.)
However, her attempt to sound like an instrument (not just her singing voice, which I think of as instrument as well), her solo and "trading 2s" with Casey were terrific! They both did well on that song.
"Cake" just keeps evolving, doesn't it? Sometime ago, Tusk mentioned that Haley seems to "play around with it" (not Tusk's wording, mind you) more than "Better." It was an astute observation. If I recall correctly, this is the 3rd time that Haley and Casey have performed that song together (City Walk, StageIt, and last night) that we know of. And, it's always a little different. And, although I wasn't particularly impressed with the piano player's solo, I certainly enjoyed the little riffs he added while she was singing.
I imagine that those of you who were there had a great time!
