I had a haircut appointment a couple of hours ago. I gave my stylist the signed copy of the Listen Up! CD I received for contributing to SMYM.

She's young and my hope is that she will like it and share it with others; possibly bring Haley's name up in conversation with customers should the talk turn to music. I decided to save any mention/preview of SMYM until my next appointment.

Driving home afterwards, I wondered what it was like for Haley to have created and recorded music that she has to keep to herself for strategic reasons. It must require great patience. We don't know when SMYM was created, but we first had wind of Haley writing with Rob Kleiner (and Sky Stonestreet) in January 2013.

I've thought about that too. It seems Haley has a little stash of high quality recorded songs that she is sitting on. I recall the song "I Belong To You," which she wrote with Alex Geringas and Clarence Coffee, Jr, as being one that she and others were very excited about, for example. Written in 2012.

Patience -- and, perhaps, frustration. There is so much we really don't know about the degree that her hands have been tied by her original contract with 19. And, on top of that, her fans (many of whom seem to think they understand everything about the business that Haley's in -- without actually being in it) level their impatience and frustrations on various sites, some of which may get back to her.

She's likely been juggling many things, but because we always see her with that beautiful smile appearing to do things effortlessly, there seems to be the perception (among some) that she's not taking her career seriously.

Midnight, thanks for that bit of info. Haley's probably been "taught," (likely through the AI experience, although I'm not certain of that) that she can't accept volunteer help. That might lead to expectations for "favors" and "favoritism." Plus, this is a business and having volunteers, no matter the best of their intentions, still could lead to sticky complications.

Chiara left 19 last fall?? Since then, Haley's been on her own to deal with not just with the creative side, but the business side -- and that's not Haley's strong suit.

There may be confidentiality restrictions with that original contract, but even if there aren't, it is not, in any way, to her advantage to complain about what she can't do until she's out of it.

Truly, I think Haley's done the best that she could within constrictions of that contract she signed almost 3 years ago. As lovinghaleyr pointed out recently, at the end of this month, Haley should be "Free" of that, and I'm hopeful she has (already) put together everything so that when SMYM is released on July 30th much can coalesce.

But sans real info, all of what I said above is merely speculation. It may be sensible -- and, ultimately may be correct, but right now it's merely speculation.

Tonight, I played SMYM over the phone for my best friend.

He seems to have a better sense of what's popular today than I do. He generally thinks Haley has talent, but isn't the enthusiastic supporter I am.

He has stated before he thinks her voice can be too overpowering, especially early in songs.

Unlike several of us, who didn't like SMYM at first listen, he raved about it.

He thinks it's the best thing she's done.

Just a couple of thoughts related to what you guys are talking about.

My guess that Haley's contract w/ 19 ended May 1st of this year, the same day that James' & Casey's did. Haley could've been signed later but I don't know why that'd be the case. She might've even been released before starting the Indiegogo project back in February.

She signed w/ Interscope on July 26, 2011, but they dropped her way back in Nov., 2012. There could've been a 3 year (from signing) no compete clause, but it could that Haley is on her own right now simply because the SMYM's vid is a (largely) fan funded independent project and so that's how they're treating it.

I think the bigger picture will come into clearer focus once the video's been released. I mean we know (I don't want to say we know anything)... It really looks as though Haley will be rejoining w/ Chiara who's been at Vector/Boardwalk since late Oct., but who's twitter acct. still says 19. (I'll bet that gets changed as soon as Haley announces.)

The most interesting lil morsel in Haley's email other than the song & the video release date, was that she mentioned that there will be album art included w/ the itunes single. Sooooo I don't think album art is usually even done, unless someone's decided to release it .

One last thing is that, I think we can pretty much count on SMYM being played on Dancing w/ the Stars at some point. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Haley gets asked on to perform it live. Also possible plays on SYTYCD (Nigel) &/or AGT (DanniG).

Hmmm, Dancing w/ the Stars is on ABC, which is owned by Disney, who also own Hollywood Records. Doesn't necessarily mean anything, just thinking out loud.

My first impression listening in imperfect situation of the shoot was that it was very catchy, groovy and I liked the intro... I enjoyed the instrumentation it had, and sure enough, it ended up being an "ear worm" the rest of the day and for some days after LOL
