RE: Haley & Casey at Room 5 August 29th
Thank you so so much Rachel and Yanni for the superb videos. Thanks Miguel, Tusk, Babbs, John and 30CamdenSquare for the posts.
We’ve heard Haley sing from many diverse set lists over the years shared benevolently from the many Haliens from all over. This is one of my favorites despite not including “My Cake” because of the particular wide range of songs performed in the show.
I adore the selection of covers from Nat King Cole to The Beatles to Michael Jackson and the originals are always great. It was nice to see Casey and Haley share the stage together throughout, harmonizing beautifully. I was excited to hear Haley performing “Dry Spell” with Casey, one of my favorite Casey songs.
“Love Is Worth Fighting For” is one of the most moving and gorgeous songs I have heard. It is not jazzy but to me nothing is better than a song that evokes strong emotions. And Haley nails this type of song perfectly. “Undone” is one of my favorites but for reasons discussed Haley did not want to support it much. For me “Love Is Worth Fighting For” surpasses it and appears to be one that Haley embraces. I’m hoping we hear it more but it also makes me sad that the song might express a deep hurt felt by Haley.
Haley again does the unthinkable. We’ve heard her scat, rap, whistle, hand trumpet and now beat box effortlessly. At this point If Haley did start to sing an aria out of nowhere at one of her shows I wouldn’t be a bit surprised.

RE: Haley & Casey at Room 5 August 29th
I finally got to listen to the rest of the vids today. (We have a seasonal business--so this is a big weekend for us) Many, many thanks again to Rachel and Yanni for providing these performances for all to see.
I'm always so happy when Caley perform together. They compliment each other so much--and there is such a comfort level between them. Great musical chemistry. LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM
One of the cool things about "You Were There" is that Haley sings her part kind of smooth and dream-like--and then Casey punches it up with his rhythmic way of singing. It's a cool dynamic --the yin and yang.
I guess there is still no determination if "I never knew what love could do" is an original or a cover. And if it's and original did they write it together or was it Haley or Casey. Strange that they didn't say. There are quite a few songs that have the same title over the years.
There is so much more I want to say--but I'm too tired and have to work again tomorrow. Hope everybody has a great Labor Day!

There are 2 songs, w/ that title that showed up in a Google search & neither of them sound anything like it. Also, Haley mentions that "You Were There" was the 1st song they wrote together so....
It's curious, there is a song called "I Never Knew" with music written by Ted Fio Rito and lyrics by Gus Kahn. It was first recorded in 1925 and has been recorded many times, often as an instrumental version (for example, Benny Goodman). There are some melodic similarities to Caley's song in spots I think, although the Fio Rito and Kahn song is more of a fast, swing tune.
The lyrics of the songs are much different although the Kahn lyrics include "I never knew what love could do, until I met you today." Caley's song has the lyric "Never knew what love can do, until I met found you today."
Compare about 8-10 seconds of these two clips:

John - I do notice some similarity in the melody over that one part. It's still different though. Also the lyrics & melody are completely changed in the verses. If it was a remake, the lyrics, at least, would be the same as the original's thru-out.
It could be that this song was inspired somewhat by that one (maybe), but they're not lifting anything directly from it like Aloe Blacc's "The Man" does from Elton's "Your Song".
Btw, my bad for thinking they were singing "could" instead of "can" in the chorus, when I first heard it.
