Sonic Bloom and collaboration with The Human Experience

The evening began with The Human Experience, David Block’s principal project, featuring former American Idol contestant Haley Reinhart. After months of attending various music festivals, completing a successful Indiegogo campaign and a shooting a futuristic music video that takes her away from the mainstream eyeballs into the a completely new realm, she and Block mixed live electronic music with powerful vocals. The combination of the two was perhaps unexpected but showed off the strengths of both Block and Reinhart as they blended their talents to captivate the audience early on.

Interesting how her new video has been spun in so many different ways. The range seems to go from a Jennifer Lopez wannabe and pop sellout, to a new realm outside the mainstream. Then there's the live rendition. Sounds like genre defying Haley.

That's why I don't get the extreme reaction from 'long time' fans to the SMYM video... she's been like this as long as we've known her, did they forget all of a sudden?

David's story

Jazzzz in ya bones!!! This song was written during my visit to New Orleans Jazz fest 2014. One of my most inspiring trips/opportunities to share music thus far happened in May this year when "Soul Visions (Rising Appalachia + The Human Experience) were invited to play at the Sugar Mill with Thievery Corporation (live) and Galactic. What an incredible opportunity to share the stage with such high level musicians. Jazz fest BLEW MY MIND. The city becomes completely inundated with music 24 hours a day. New Orleans stole my heart.

I was staying at my friend Roc's house (Roc you are a LEGEND). His house is incredibly inspiring (We recorded 2 of the songs from "Soul Visions" in a closet/bathroom at his home (and may I add that his Kitchen is one of the most magical creative zones EVER.

One night I couldn't sleep. I was so overwhelmed with inspiration from going to concerts 12 hours a day, that the music in my head would not turn off. The only thing I could do was work on music. That night, I wrote this song. I also had the vision of recording some especially incredible musicians while I was in New Orleans, yet had unfortunately not found the write players yet. The following morning, I played the new song for Roc and mentioned to him that I'd really love some guitar. He said (in his lovely Kiwi accent), "I know this pretty rippin guitar player from this band Trombone Shorty" (if you don't know who they are, do yourself a favor and check them out). The band happened to be in town playing Jazz Fest (they tour 200 shows a year lol). Roc called Pete Murano (you are also a LEGEND) and he was super into the idea of us having a session.

The day I went over to meet him I was a bit nervous. A lead guitarist from a huge band can often be "not so approachable", but Pete could not be any cooler, down to earth, and over all an absolutely chill guy (and beyond ripping guitar player). I love working with you Pete and look forward to creating a lot more music (look for another song on this album coming out soon)

Fast forward a couple months, I email Eric Oberthaler (eO) with some horn section ideas (Eric, you are also a LEGEND) and here we are with a new song (which makes me dance in pants, and sometimes without pants).

They are not exclusive, Haley is probably referring to the melody she is singing her lyrics to, on top of Block's musical piece. I don't think either of them are wrong or mistaken....
