RE: Haley Doing Voice Over work? versatility is the game

I think I might still have the video from seeing them in Wheeling (I might've deleted them to make room for Chicago Theater, tho I thought I saw them on one of my back up drives....) He's definitely got a soulful colour to his singing, the type you have from living rough life.
Good luck to him

Harry _was_ absolutely "spot on" !
Haley was "Brialliant" as well, clever girl.
Cheers
Oh.. and I'll ad to the thread.
----
Voice over is more than versatility.. its a major career opportunity in itself and if it starts to work by some chance she should dive full in.
That really isn't in complete conflict with the title of the thread of course.. maybe I just would subsitute "opportunity" for "versatility". Maybe I feel stronger that she should continue to explore other things.
If she every got an opportunity, even as a lowly paid intern, I'd like to see her seize and opportunity to work a job with a movie music composer, or movie soundtrack mixer. I'm talking working on soundtracks EVEN with no commitment that she'd sing on any of it... more the editting and fades in and out and selection of what bars etc .. .nitty gritty that I bet she has an ear for.
Haley really has a flare for acting. I'm less sure about the accents being great ( to be honest they're really not that special.. I know dozens of people in normal careers I've heard do better to add humor to a presentation or even staff meeting etc) but I'm 100% sure that her methods of bringing sounds to life while singing draws on emotions the way a great actress does. On idol that wasn't just the "i who have nothing" but also different roles she took on with "call me" and "be my baby tonight", and "stepping out with my baby". I think she was more herself with "Blue" and "earth song" and "WWandWSNB" and the reprise of Benny .... and that isn't close to an insult haha... just saying that she seemlessly steps into roles via a method acting sort of thing... and of course it isn't a black/white line.
I don't think Haley is suited though to be a screen actress though...very subtle things about that...(which I'll bite my tongue on)
but I think her understanding of acting and music is more like one of a film or tv director. She could tell you how ending a phrase with a different not conveys a different emotion ... I think comments from Beyonce alluded to that indirectly.
I just want to see her successful doing something she thrives on (I know everyone hear shares that emotion)
I'd almost worry that too keen a focus on chasing stardom as a singer might not let her think of other opportunities as equally rewarding for her in terms of satisfaction , contribution , and providing a livelihood.
It does seem like she makes songwriting opportunities a first priority which I think is great. ( I wonder if she travels less to be able to respond to writing collaborating invitations we don't even know about?)

I think Haley's screen acting suffers because she's not practiced in it and thinks too much about what she's doing. Whereas she's been manipulating her voice nearly all her life. That flows naturally from her.
If she falls into the right gig, voice acting could be lucrative.
I heard this guy on NPR today:
Quote:In 1989, (Harry) Shearer became a part of the cast of The Simpsons. He was initially reluctant because he thought the recording sessions would be too much trouble. He felt voice acting was "not a lot of fun" because traditionally, voice actors record their parts separately. He provides voices for numerous characters, including Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders...Kent Brockman... (and) Principal Skinner...
Quote:Until 1998, Shearer was paid $30,000 per episode. During a pay dispute in 1998, Fox threatened to replace the six main voice actors with new actors, going as far as preparing for casting of new voices.[39] The dispute, however, was resolved and Shearer received $125,000 per episode until 2004, when the voice actors demanded that they be paid $360,000 an episode.[39] The dispute was resolved a month later,[40] and Shearer's pay rose to $250,000 per episode.[41] After salary re-negotiations in 2008, the voice actors received $400,000 per episode.[42] Three years later, with Fox threatening to cancel the series unless production costs were cut, Shearer and the other cast members accepted a 30 percent pay cut, down to just over $300,000 per episode.

RE: Haley Doing Voice Over work? versatility is the game
Personally, I think the voice over work is fantastic. I remember reading an article about VO actors and how they made very good $$$--plus had time to do other things. I think the article said something about it being a dream job for actors. Not to mention, making more connections. That's half the battle sometimes

Casey's video and some short comedic video on a cable show.
She looked fairly natural in those Ford-related Idol videos.
