RE: Ole signs Haley to New Worldwide Deal! New EP!
Ole Musicbox ( http://olemusicbox.com/ ) pointed out earlier provides services for production companies (to find music, etc.) aka production music company; not a music production company. Confused me too at first.
Dina LaPolt negotiated the first contract with Ole (and I would guess with Steven Tyler guided her to them).
Totally irrelevant to this discussion: Haley must know how to play piano (based on the fact she was taking Jazz Piano lessons at Harper pre-idol). Her excuse has been her fingernails...

"Knock Me Out" by Haley Reinhart, David A. Bollmann II, Clare Reynolds

@mf8s don't forget "someway somehow"

@PJHaleyR Ha. I only did BMI this time around. Thanks. Good fine. Wonder if this was songcamp?
Looks like, from what I recall of songwriting credits, Haley had more influence on "Knock Me Out" than "Someway Somehow." They're usually alphabetical if there was equal input.

@mf8s yeah seems it was the one from last year about this time in Va. beach

@PJHaleyR Yeah. Probably both...
Indeed, probably both given Bollmann is also featured twice.

RE: Ole signs Haley to New Worldwide Deal! New EP!
(10-22-2014, 06:33 PM)My Alter Ego Wrote: Earlier this afternoon, I'm reasonably certain ("reasonably" being about 99.999% certain) that I saw a message to the effect that "it was hoped that Haley had her legal team working on this." (I'm quite certain that I didn't hallucinate that.)
I agree with that sentiment. Given the nature of what I deal with at work, my antenna goes up when I see something like:
Quote:Lately, we’ve adopted the business nomenclature of Rights Management, seeing ourselves operating in a broader rights management role. In that direction we have a direct deal with YouTube and are managing assets on behalf of clients in the master and audio visual realms. We are also in the secondary rights business, audio visual retransmission and I see us getting into neighboring rights in the near future. Music publishers have a natural ability to manage complex rights environments and data sets so it is our role to extend the scope of our rights management activities.
I get a little concerned when I see phrases such as "our rights" unless the creators of the IP (not sure that's the correct nomenclature here, but what I see regularly) are included in that 3 letter word "our." Mercfan, any light that you might be able to shed here??
In addition to my concern that the music writers (it's so hard to say that rather than composer) be compensated well for their efforts, I also hope that the retired Ontario teachers have found this to be a "comfortable" arrangement.
It's worthwhile to keep things in context. "Our rights management activities" is not the same thing as "our rights". The world’s fastest-growing independent rights management company has every right to claim ownership of it's "rights management activities".
Congratulations to Haley. Glad to see Ole further invested in her future. I was a little worried when Chad left Ole, and they moved their headquarters to Nashville, that they wouldn't be as supportive. It's really good to see that that's not the case. They seem to really appreciate Haley's talent, potential, and perspective.

RE: Ole signs Haley to New Worldwide Deal! New EP!
OK, I'll be honest. When I first read the ole press release, I was really excited. But by the time I read through the entire thread & the one over at IDF, I didn't know what the hell was going on... Other than ole is recording an EP w/ Haley (awesome) & Steve is taking care of Angie's fish while Patti is in Toronto.
Well I read the OP again & this part
Quote:"Haley is an amazing songwriter with a great career ahead of her, and we're excited to be on her team as she continues her journey toward stardom," said Leo V. Williams IV, General Manager of Creative (Los Angeles) at ole. "While most people know her from American Idol, her songs deserve to be appreciated on their own merits, and we're happy to provide the exposure they need to catch on."
^right here. Sounds, to me, like ole will also be promoting Haley's new EP, as a label would, in addition to taking care of the recording costs. Did most of you guys get that impression from reading this? I know it was brought up at least a few times here. I don't know if it was brought up at all on IDF.
