To be fair, I had access to secondary audio sources, you sacrifice audio by being closer to the stage, you sacrifice video by being far away to not have distorted sound affect your recording
Sounded like he was right next to a speaker

I'm going to try and bring a point and shoot to the show, my second option, my cell phone camera. I think I should be far enough from the stage to get decent sound (crowd noise not withstanding), hopefully, being in the center block, won't mean I will have some kind of obstruction from any kind of sound system platform

Them Bay City Rollers LOL -- I forgot just how corny some of their stuff was.

I know this is coming from an ABBA fan, but the BCR were putting the full on marketing of their product. It was ridiculous, they were on everything, you couldn't get away from their mugs and horrible fashion sense.

There's an infinity between the musical/songwriting talents of ABBA and the BCR... also, Agnetha

I've found that there are lots of ways not to spend too much on lodging and meals once I've gotten to Europe. The 2 star hotels really aren't as bad as that might sound here with our star inflation.

Now, I don't have any money to travel until I get my kids out of college 7 years from now but I love traveling in Europe.. more particularly France and Italy. The countrysides are so beautiful and there is so much history etc... and great food in those countries in small roadside inns etc.

If you get out of London proper you'd also save a bundle and could take transport in.

Tusk... did you ever ask Casey what type of recording device he used for the God Bless the Child performance... the sound was so good on it..... if you're going for new equipment definitely put the sound before the video.

Even though I had met Casey a few times (LU debut, CityWalk, Room 5 and SMYM video shoot to name a few), Casey'd always seemed a little 'guarded' with me. Friendly, but guarded, so I never really got any opportunity to talk with him for any length of time.

I think it might be because he knows me as "Haley's Fan" and even though she's his pal, I think most artists don't really enjoy talking with fans of someone else about them (even tho our limited conversations weren't about Haley)

I think since I attended his show in Seattle, just to see him, it seems he's been more friendly. I don't think he was purposefully acting this way, I think it's a human reaction. I bet he gets asked about Haley alot throughout his touring the country and maybe it gets tiring and slightly disrespectful to him to have to constantly answer questions about someone else, even if it is about a friend (again not purposefully)

I'm fairly sure he just used his phone. Casey doesn't strike me as someone to carry equipment around with him, in fact, I don't recall ever seeing him with a camera. Even back then, iPhones do fairly well with video, I think. That's what Rachel uses.

I have a Windows Phone, which, even now is behind the iPhones in video quality
I used it to video Casey when I ran out of memory on my Camera, while the audio was acceptable, the video was underwhelming, even at close range

I might look into upgrading my phone if it's not too spendy, the newer model is supposedly much improved over the one I have now.

I know I'm probably going to regret not staying longer, but since it's an overseas flight, with all it's attendant costs in lodging and transportation, not having started any conversations with relatives I haven't spoken to in a while to schedule visits, and wanting to take advantage of extremely great air fare before it changes or increases, I'm left with only being able to be there for 4 days

I'll have the day before and after the show to look around London, since I'm looking to get a Hotel in the city, so I'll be able to make a little something of it

Here's the video I took of Casey's show, unedited, with my Windows Phone, the audio is actually pretty good (except for it picks up my 'rustling' ), but again, the video sucks (Plus it's zoom is very limited, so depending on how far I am from the stage... )

It would be fun to see PMJ live, quite a lot of energy in their performances and from the crowd.

Tusk .. always enjoy hearing about your process. Beyond keeping up to date and getting to hear Haley's performances I hang around because there is so much sharing about things people learn along the way of her journey about the business and other things.

I didn't think you were entirely on a first name basis with Casey (well I mean vice-versa) but wondered if you had "talked shop" with him. It actually might be a great ice-breaker next time you had a chance to say hi to him. People usually like to talk about creative things they're doing and are happy to share what has worked with them. I'm also curious about the equipment he used for his more produced videos he's done on his own.

As for the sound.. Yes I really enjoyed the sound from the phone .. it was pretty rich in quality... funny that is all it takes (i've deleted the sound only 'video" i took of Caseys show when my phone slipped into the crack in the booth ...but it wasn't half bad either)

It is interesting to me though that lots of people really are into the video (video portion of the videos) of Haley (and even there people have differences.. some being distracted by the other performers on the stage and other's less so). I think when it comes down to it I don't particularly like looking at faces of singers as they sing (well its ok for a while but my eye likes to see the other performers at the same time and the room... perhaps why I don't get bothered by all the shots of JLO during singers performances on idol).

It's not the perfect analogy but when I watch football I like to sit as high as I can get in a stadium to see the x's an o's and get frustrated with overages that give us too many close ups and not enough view of plays developing. Again, not a perfect analogy but, just sorta expanding on how I look at it.

Certainly from what I've read on the forums I'm in a small minority on that. I listen very closely though and get put off rhythmic accompaniment not quite on etc the way most people get put off with all the shots of JLO.

I think your videos strike a nice balance even occasionaly (and only to a degree) a bit too haley focused in group numbers for my tastes... but lol Haley is why you're there !

Keep up the great video work along with the audio... people love it.
