A couple of minor differences such as "its" instead of "his" and "This" instead of "It's."

That's just a result of French words having 'genders'.. when translating into English, French object pronouns gets assigned 'his', sometimes French gender pronouns, like Il or elle get translated into English neutral ones like 'it'...

The genders or neutrals in a language are often where translation software doesn't work accurately, and a reason you run your translation back to English, in case that changes the meaning of what you want to say.
(I believe there are 3 'genders' in German, Der, die or das?)

At least w/ my relatives, they understand and account for it. Many Europeans speak/learn English as a second language, and understand the gender issue translating back and forth to English, I think the general thrust of the message was relayed

I've actually translated a lot of material from French to English using Google while doing some genealogical research. My maternal grandfather's family came to Canada from France in the 17th and early 18th centuries and, of course, the records are in French (sometimes 350 year old French, which creates other problems). There is the gender issue and a few other quirks, but I've been impressed in the readability of documents after the Google translation.
